Got the privilege to see a Lucid Gravity driving down I-5 between Portland and Salem today. Obvious test vehicle with what I assume is a Lidar on the roof. The gentleman driving had at least 5 laptop/tablet screens around him. I tried to wave, but he was super focused ahead.

Little smaller in person than I expected.

Here's a photo with a Mazda approaching in the adjacent lane for reference....

I test drove one Monday, super nice inside, good tech, nice big screens that are quite configurable, but it's a station wagon. I was happy to get back in my Rivian.

Apparently the top tech package comes with Lidar and like 24 cameras or something crazy, with Level 3 self-drive coming s00n.

I get minivan vibes from it. At least in these photos

This is what I'd posted on an another thread last week:
--------
Recently had a chance to spend bit of time with Gravity at their Fashion Island showroom.

It was much smaller than the image would imply and the inside looks and feels very nice. Very different feel than R1S and R2.

The seats have much more bolstering for lateral support and hugs you, unlike R1 seats where it feels almost like an individual bench seat. It is much tighter feel than R1 width-wise inside. The 2nd row leg room looks like bit more than R1 with the seat position all the way back leaving chopped off knees for the 3rd row passengers. The 2nd row seats definitely lacked the attention of the driver's row and looks plain and bit too simple. Rivian 2nd row seats are much nicer.

The 3rd row is an option for Gravity and one can get with or without. It fold in the equivalent space of the compact spare is in the R1. The folding remained me of a minivan. Still, once folded, there is a flat floor all the way to the drivers's row (with 2nd row seat folded).

Walking around the vehicle, the fit and finish looked great but it is a showroom sample so who knows what's delivered. Also it definitely felt boulevard cruiser SUV and not off-road SUV. Kind a like how no one sees Lyric off roading. Gravity is in the same boat.

The use case I see for Gravity is, intended or not, replacement for Air so that one can have more space and cargo carrying capabilities. It is a very nice vehicle and will be competing in a high priced market segment so I think its pretty tough competition against Range Rovers, BMW, MB eSUV.

The way it's priced, one can almost buy two base R2 for a price of one Gravity decently equipped so definitely addressing a different segment. I do not believe great number of people would cross shop R1 and Gravity as soon as they actually see the differences. Each are focused on a different audience.

That's a Mazda CX-5 in case anyone is wondering.

I think it’s an attractive package, but then again, I like wagons and we own a minivan.

Definitely gun shy about Lucid as a company though…
Yah I wonder what their service experience is like.

Lucid is really interesting but I am not a fan of the shape of the Gravity, too Mini-Van-ish for me.

Same, it's a seriously cool vehicle, just too low and too expensive for me.

The only ev I've seen that impressed me more than the Rivian was the test rolls Royce that charged next to me in Florida a ways back. Got to check it out.

I’ll buy a grand touring for $55k used in 2 years if still in business. Amazing dynamics and tech, charging abilities are extraordinary. I don’t mind minivans as long trip machines which this will be great at. Has more interior room than R1S and much better efficiency with similar power.

Absolutely agree. DW had a minivan years ago. No need for that again.

Also was eyeing the Scout but production is too far off. R1S is the perfect middle.

It does, but it is an option though in a package with a bunch of other stuff.

My wife wants one. When I first saw it, I hated the looks. The driving experience was modestly better, but I wasn't blown away. The ride height just felt way too low (even in their standard), which does not help with the minivan comparisons. I have since seen them more often in the service center near here, and I will say, the color and wheels go a long in way in making this look less like a minivan and more like a sports wagon.

The massage function is nice, the seats are very supportive and comfortable and the cabin feels a lot more spacious than the R1S. Truly a pleasant place to be in. The tint in the sunroof is much better and actually makes it tolerable. The cabin and space is well thought out, specially for a vehicle of its size (next to the R1 it looked like a compact SUV). I enjoyed the squircle more than I thought I would and the ride is very comfortable.

The kick in the balls is the list of add on. No third row standard is a head scratcher. I get the Model X does the same thing but wtf. 360 Camera is behind a package and so is rear wheel steering, power outlets and heated steering wheel. The 450 range is for the smallest wheels (that don't look good) and 5 seat configuration. Add the more acceptable looking 21' wheels and the 7 seat option and the range drops to 375. I have seen people compare this to the fully loaded dual with performance and max battery pack, but price wise, this is closer to the tri.

The touring trim coming later this year starting at $80k sounds more compelling, but depends on what else they strip off and how much worse the range gets. As others have echoed, buying one used in 2 years and hopefully Lucid managing to reach profitability would make this a very attractive proposition by then. As of now, I think they got the pricing very wrong (at least with the add ons considered) and Lucid still needs to prove that is has staying power, more so than Rivian.
