Truck indicated battery temp of 78 so probably already at ideal temps.
Middle of the bar doesn't mean ideal, I've seen best efficiency and charging 85-95°F. Quad large here.

I hit 222kW recently, I was both surprised and concerned when I saw that. It quickly tapered down though.

It looks like you’re plugging in at around 40-50% state of charge? Yeah, you won’t get 215kW starting that high. At 45% is when it drops to… drum roll please… 150kW.

Try plugging in at 5-10%.

(and yes, the Max pack has a worse charge curve than the Large pack.)

If you plug in Right at 45% it'll still hit about 215kw. It just tapers off around 50%.

If you plug in earlier, it usually gets warm enough that it starts to taper before 45 to 50%.

I plugged in at 52% and got 222kW...

You imply that all EA stations are crap. That’s what I’m talking about. I’ve had nothing but good experiences at EA.
100% of EA stations that I personally have visited were crap. This is just fact. And in fact now I have to deal with well deserved FUD in the wife because our first road trip with the trailer was so horrible thanks to EA. Now she's got anxiety about next week's trip. Facts.

I started at 26% and 31% for the two occasions referenced in this thread.

Whoops, I thought I linked a thread in my last comment, looks like I didn’t:

https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/max-pack-1-100-charging-curve-speed-r1t.21300/

150kW at even 26% isn’t out of the ordinary.

The Max pack just doesn’t have as good a charge curve as the Large pack.

Out of Spec Reviews even tested in their “10% challenge” (start vehicle at 10%, charge for 15 minutes, drive at 80 MPH until it drops back to 10%) that the Max Pack charging curve is bottom-heavy. It charges faster at lowest states of charge, then drops off sooner than Large pack. Meaning the Large and Max packs (with the same motor/wheel/tire/tonneau configuration) performed *EXACTLY* the same in the test.

I am hoping that since these test were done when the max pack was still relatively new that Rivian will make more charging improvements to the max pack like they did with the original large over time.

Have you tried going to a RAN station?

Haven't had the chance to try a RAN yet. Hopefully one of these days on the way to Vegas.

Just pointing that out, if you charge at a RAN location and don't get higher speeds then both are on Rivian so they should be able to tell you why.

Just wanted to provide an update on my experience max pack charging speeds. It still has not improved. It’s a bit frustrating that Rivian still has not improved the charging considering max pack has been out for a while now. It’s disappointing to pay more money for the max pack and yet it performs worse than lower cost large pack. I really hope rivian puts more priority on improving the charge speeds of the max pack. With its current state, it’s terrible road tripper if you have to fast charge. Photos attached to show I only hit 180kw even with battery preconditioning and starting from 17% SoC. When my truck was in the shop for a month I was able to drive a loaner large pack and it consistently performed better than my max pack at the same chargers.

Kyle’s video matches my experiences with max pack charging speeds. Poor performance from a relatively large battery pack.
