I'm always on the lookout for news regarding upcoming EV vehicles, so I don't know how I missed something like this.

I can't find news of an EV from Ford or Porsche offering a vehicle with anything approaching a 400 mile range.

Does Porsche even have a vehicle that can get 300 miles?
Porsche underrates range because they are performance cars. Driven normally the large battery Taycan is a 300+ mile car

Ford will build longer range larger vehicles in the next generation which is EV from the ground up. The current F150 frame rail limits battery pack size

Ford has not announced any vehicles with a range longer than the Lightning, which is 320 miles. Nowhere near the 400 miles Rivian claims is coming for the R1T. Hoping for and expecting future EVs from Ford to have a longer range is reasonable and is likely to happen, but that doesn't make my post any less true.

I also agree that Porsche underrates the Taycan range. I've driven them. I've follows the reviews. It is capable of upper 200s and lower 300s real world range under ideal circumstances... Still far below the 400 mile range Rivian says is coming for the R1T.

Your post basically says what I said... The Rivian max pack is in nother class of range than Porsche or Ford vehicles currently in production or coming over the next 1-2 years.

If the Max Pack ever hits the streets it will jump Rivian to #2 or #3 on the list I would think. That would be good for future sales and investors alike. Where I live, 400+mile range is essential if I ever want to leave town.
Agreed. 400 miles is a game changer and will help a lot of people transition to EVs who have been holding out for this sort of range.

I'm really intrigued by the fact that Rivian's max pack R1T is substantially cheaper than the Mercedes or any other vehicle offering 400 mile range. It is actually making me stray to question whether Rivian will be able to deliver the max pack without increasing the price.

I agree with this. I think that end of October they’ll be announcing the newer (not quite Max) pack for the R1S, call it the Explore Pack? Ha!

I’m guessing it’s not quite the 180mWh capacity of the R1T given the form-factor challenges.

I’m hoping the rumors of a new 800V standard & motor design are true, but I’m not betting on it.

I do think that one way or another when Rivian gives updates on the Max Pack for the R1T they are going to have to give more info on maximum capacity for the R1S form-factor.

I’m banking on the fact that my reservation is so far back in the queue that I can bide my time before pulling the trigger on R1T max pack or R1S; the wait might even be long enough for them to announce their next vehicle(s). If Rivian announces a bronco/wrangler smaller form-factor crawler vehicle but with 300+ capacity, I’ll switch my reservation to that vehicle & wait for it, whether it’s on R2 platform or R1 platform. IMO 300mi. is sufficient for a smaller vehicle.

But if it’s the R1S or R1T for me, I absolutely must make full use of all of the packaging space: I love how Rivian has been super efficient in packaging components (like lowering the radiator to make more space for the frunk, that tiny space for the Tonneau cover storage, etc.) & so I want my battery capacity to make the most of the available frame/underseat space.
During my [many] chats with Rivian CS on the subject of the battery for the R1S, they've consistently provided some version of "we're working on a larger battery and hope to have more information on that in the near future." All of the reps stated that they do not use the term "Max Battery Pack" in conjunction with the R1S and the preferred term is "Longer Range" as it will not have the same 180 kWh capacity. When I asked what the capacity of the "Longer Range" R1S battery is (or will be), the answer was always some version of "we hope to have more information on that in the near future."

I suppose we can safely assume that the capacity of the R1S Longer Range will be somewhere in between the 135 kWh Long Range and the Max. It would be great if this info is part of the October surprise that Rivian has promised us, but that is probably too much to reasonably expect.

As to the R1T Max, my bet is that we will see delivery windows revised from six months down to two or three. It's hard to tell if the windows will also slide to the right, but I would not bet against that.

It's assumed the Lucid Gravity will be long range. That vehicle looks like a direct competitor to the R1S if the price stays not too much over $100K

I put a reservation in this week and am hoping for Max news in the coming months. I'll be coming from the e-tron (~220 miles on a good day) so the 400+ range is a game changer... in 2024/5 ?

NICE! when was your reservation? I am early Dec 2018, so hopefully those dates that your guide mentioned will be the same for me.

We likely won't see another Ford EV hit production until the end of 2024. The Explorer BEV and Lincoln Aviator have planned production starting in Dec 2024. Replacement Lightning not until August 2025.

Around the same for me in terms of preorder . So should be the same for you. I think they were supposed to update by the end of October an estimated delivery time. So hopefully it becomes clearer soon.

I’m desperate for this delivery window update. I’m “late” to the party with a 2/19 reservation ?

LOL "late".

My Max Pack reservation was made almost exactly a year ago. 10/21.

It's all good, though...I actually don't want my Rivian yet, so hopefully all of yours get built first. ?

Your definition of late is comical. 12/21 preorder and I never even got a delivery window. Hoping I get one s00n when they release the website changes. I'm at least close to the Dever SC, so hopefully that helps my timing chances.
