I received an email this afternoon to confirm my Max Pack R1T and my deposit becomes non refundable. I'm just waiting for a call from my guide about a few options and then I'll lock it in.
Do you have a specific guide assigned? Like you, i have a few questions before I lock in, so just sent an email to customer service last week and still waiting for a response. I don't have a guide assigned that I know of.

I got a Vin number today for my Rivian R1S with Max pack supposedly it’ll be here in 3 to 5 weeks. I live in Las Vegas. I need every extra amount of range I can get to go to a cabin up in the mountains in Utah and we sure as heck do not want to have to deal with stopping and charging to get there

This is interesting.... I operate my current R1T in conserve all the time. I get 303 miles of estimated range when charging to 85%. Doing the math that gives me 356 miles of range at 100%. If Rivian is saying an R1T with dual motor has a 400 mile range, then I agree it would make no sense for me to replace my current R1T with a dual motor version and max pack. Knowing the actual size of the MAX pack would be helpful.
How are your new tires every 10k miles?

Pre-order / reservation date?
Performance version?
Interior and exterior color?
Wheel choice?

But when you start playing the Tesla game of trying to "squeeze" every last electron out, the result is no one will see that range except in that one very controlled test.
Just went on a road trip with my R1T max pack. Very happy I went with the extra range and it's working out great!

Then what's the point of wanting a larger battery?
Because I drive 130 miles each way to work with limited charging options. Throw in detours and weather and I want that extra mileage. I've been driving across alligator alley just about once a week for 13 years and the day I had to cross the alley to pick up my R1T was the worst weather I'd ever seen. I had to stop for gas in my ICE vehicle because I has averaging 8 mpg less than normal and driving home I averaged 1.83 miles per kw in the Rivian which was horrible. On the low end I should have been averaging 2.2 miles per kw but the wipers were full blast from pouring rain and it was very windy. I'll be happy when the Tesla network opens up to Rivian because that gives my a nice option if I ever encountered those conditions again but started with less range.
