These tires have only been out a few weeks on this size…. We finally have an alternative to the Pirelli tires.

The Defenders also seem to have a slightly better load rating so they should last longer.

Today, I put a set on my R1T at the local Discount Tire. Let’s see how they hold up.

I'm definitely interested not only in how they hold up, but what your efficiency looks like with the michelins versus the OE pirellis. I'm looking to pick up a set of 21s which I'm going to have powder coated and after the powder coating I'm going to get a new set of tires mounted and balanced on them and those will replace my existing setup when my tires wear out, which unfortunately I'm at 6/32s right now. If they hold up well and the efficiency numbers are good, I would definitely put those on versus the pirellis.

I tow a lot. I was down to 5/32 at my last rotation at 10k miles on the Perelis. I’m at 13k today. Last week I ran over a nail and after squeezing my bottle of tireject into it (included with our Rivians) I took it to Discount Tire to get the nail pulled. I was down to 4/32 on all 4 tires.

I figured it was time.

I pull either a 5500lb boat or a 7500lb box trailer almost every week and do about 50/50 on highway vs city driving averaging 50-100 miles a day. I realize I probably inflict more abuse on my tires than the average driver.

I’ll keep a close eye on tread depth at each rotation and try to post my results here.

Speaking of tires, how long do the Pirellis last, typical driving, not hauling or towing anything?
