Moving R1T a tiny amount to hook up trailer

Here’s probably the dumbest question posted here so far so feel free to flame away!

Is there a technique or setting I can change to let me move the truck an inch or two smoothly? When I’m backing up to hook up a trailer, I find that it’s very challenging to move the truck a tiny amount smoothly and slowly to get it in just the right position to hook up. Maybe I’m just a towing dummy but it would be interesting to know if there are tricks you use. Thanks!

Maybe try one of the off road modes, rally mode makes the throttle longer so a bit easier to fine tune at slow speeds.

Practice. And try the drive modes with more conservative throttle mapping like mountainbikedude suggested.

I use left foot braking to achieve fine tuning. Just keep practicing.

I have a very tight garage, I have found with a very light touch I can move my R1S in very small increments. Sometimes it takes a beat to move so patients helps.

Try practicing in your driveway, I think you will be surprised at how little you can get it to creep. I’m usually in all purpose pulling into the garage.

After two boating w/trailer seasons in the R1T.. you have to ride the brake with your left foot while simultaneously applying a small amount of pressure on the accelerator pedal with your right foot. Modulate your movement using the brake pedal not the accelerator pedal. Its the only way to get inch type movements.

I never thought to change drive modes when I had a trailer; that is a good idea. Using both pedals generally worked for me to do fine adjustments.

But there were a couple of times when I decided that rather than try to move less than an inch, I moved a foot or so away from the trailer and tried again. It can be easier to get the R1S moving smoothly and then decide when to hit the brake.

What I have done is focus on the ball (looking at the camera image) and very slowly press the throttle. It works for me. The other suggestion (as already mentioned) is pull away a little bit and then try backing up. Once you are moving it should be easier to go very slow.

One thing I do with my boat trailer is to get close enough for the trailer to touch the ball, either too close or too far away, then lower the trailer until the weight is on the ball. I can usually do this using the camera. Then I go forward or back as needed and the trailer drops onto the ball.
