Mysterious Tire Pressure Loss

When we recently got the new data screen with tire pressures, we started monitoring tire pressure on a daily basis. The pressures in al four tires were 48 and 49 psi. About two days ago a tire pressure warning appeared on the driver screen. I checked for a low tire and found that all four tires were showing at 38 and 39 psi. When I manually checked the pressures, they were showing 39 and 40 psi. I refilled the tires up to 49 psi. The current reading on the data screen is 48 and 49 psi.

I cannot see why all four tires would lose 10 # of pressure simultaneously with no other tire issues involved. Any thoughts?

In all seriousness, though - the only way that would happen would be serious change in air pressure (like descending many thousands of feet) or temperature. Unless some OCD crackhead lowered your tires precisely the same amount each.

Even on COLD mornings here in CO losing 10 lbs of pressure would be odd. 5-6 is possible, but I don't think I've ever seen it drop 10. I doubt being in FL it would ever get cold enough to do that.

I agree that a 10 psi drop does not seem right. If it happens again, you could try visiting your local Discount Tire and see if they could inspect your tires. The one close to me was trained on lifting the Rivian and had the Jack pucks.

Odd having all 4 do that.
I have had one that is consistent with all the other tires at 50 for 4-5 days, then one day it is at 44 and the rest are still at 50.
Fill back up to 50 and no change for another 4-5 days then bam, back to 44.

That is a strange drop in pressure. All of mine recently dropped about 3 PSI and I attributed that to temps dropping into the upper 30s at night recently. 10lb is way too much. I guess keep an eye on it and see if it happens again.

This occurred when the weather did turn suddenly cooler, But it had only dropped into the 40's. At first I thought that the drop drop in temperature had caused this, but the temperature came back up into the 70's, but the tire pressure stayed low. The R1T is parked in the driveway right next to the Silverado. This did not happen to the Chevy.

If anyone had messed with the tires, Gary would have caught it on tape. I will keep an eye on Opal's TPMS, especially when the next cold snap hits.

I just had a similar issue with 2/4 of my 20” ATs. I upgraded from 21” and within a week I was consistently losing pressure in my back two tires.

long story short- my valves were not tightened well. I had a slow leak around both valve stems. Once I tightened them up- problem solved.

The pressure seem be holding. If it goes down again, I will check the valve stems. Thank you for this information.

Was there a big change in temprature? Tire pressure can drop around 1 psi for every 10 degrees the temprature drops. For instance going from 85 degrees to 45 degrees the tire pressure could go from 46 psi to 42 psi.

No, the temperature drop was from the 70s down to the 40s.

Unless it dropped 100 Deg F, this seems strange.

There is also a notable delta between what your TPMS reads on screen and what an actual psi-g shows at the tire--many people have noted that. So, if you're comparing between the screen and a tire pressure gauge, that can also account for some variance. Mine were 3-5 psi off.

From what the screen was showing to the manual tire pressure gauge was pretty much identical.

Loose valve cores, debris in the dust cap pushing the valve core, damaged stem, leaky tire, leaky bead (sometimes on new tires until driven in) or a hairline cracked wheel (seen that on a Cherokee).
