Thank you Tesla for building such a great charging network. I appreciate Rivian and Tesla working together to make this happen!

I traveled the same route a month later and having the adapter and access to most of the network was like night and day. One month ago my passenger was on the EVgo and Electrify America app for one hour straight trying to find a place to charge on the same route. We pulled up to an EA station that showed 2 available immediately before we exited the freeway. When we drove up two of the chargers were broken and there were more EV’s waiting to charge than operating chargers! The next fast charger that showed availability was the next to last DC fast charger before I would not make it to another fast charger. The last option was an EVgo with two chargers and 0 available. The next to last was an EA with 4 chargers showing 3 available. It stayed 3 available till we drove up 15 minutes later. Sure enough, 3 available and all 4 operating upon arrival! I plugged in and it worked. Before the handshake happened two more EVs arrived and the station was now full. I walked into the Walmart and before I could make it into the restroom the Rivian app notified me that changing stopped. So I had to go outside to restart it and it worked for the remainder of the session. There was now an EV waiting to charge.

This month I could simply tap my screen and see how many were available. I chose my stop based on which Supercharger had less than 50% utilization. Plug in and charge very quickly without having to use an app or credit card. No need for pushing the limits or having a passenger working full time. Having an adapter and access to most of the Supercharger network completely transformed the road trip experience for me.

I'm getting ready to make a road-trip and my first stop is at a Tesla Supercharger - BBQ smokehouse to charge-up.

I am looking forward to it all day long.

Looking to switch from Tesla to Rivian. I travel 40k miles per year and the Tesla network is critical to me for smooth trips.

Being able to do this in the Rivian is also critical. All the horror stories of the non-Tesla networks do have me a bit anxious so your story is good to hear.

April was opt in date / email.

we will get another email to verify shipping address.

right now folks who bought a R1T with VIN around 5000 are receiving it.

I got my SUV June 2023 and I am still waiting for my email to confirm address.

Most folks are buying third party adapters for $175 - $200 or paying $400-$500 on eBay for Original OEM Ford / Tesla / Rivian adapters.

Currently doing a family road trip from Denver to Orange County, CA. Was hoping to have Tesla adapter and still waiting for it but decided to do the trip and for the most part has worked out well. On our way to OC mostly used Rivian RAN in Grand Junction, CO/Las Vegas/Barstow and they were excellent! Rivian app had us charge in Edwards, CO with Electrify America and that one was really good as was the EA chargers in Beaver, UT & Cedar City, UT. We decided to stay in Richfield, UT and the EA charger there near walmart had 4 stall but only one worked (150 kw charger). Was sweating because wasn't sure what we would do if this one didn't work. We also charged in Green River, UT (EA Charger) and it worked but only had like 3 stalls and not ideal location but did have a successful charge there.

We are currently on our way back and doing a stop in Moab, UT for a few days. Used same Rivian RAN chargers (excellent experience) but staying in St. George, UT and had similar EA charger experience as Richfield, UT with only 1 stall working near walmart (150 kw). Moab has Tesla magic doc and looks like good EA charger so not too worried.

Like others have posted on this forum, Rivian RAN is excellent and i don't even think twice about their reliability. Will be interesting when R2 comes out and more Rivians on the road but by then we'll have Tesla NACS adapters and chargers so not worried.

EA chargers can be hit or miss and the 2 that caused me the most anxiety were located in Walmart- not enough experience to draw any conclusions but just anectodal based on this trip. Rivian and ABRP incorporating charger score has also been a life saver and can't say enough about how valuable that has been. Previously downloaded plugshare but don't think I need that app anymore with the new letter grades for chargers now.

According to Plugshare, there's an 8-stall EA charger between Moab and Arches NP. There's also a Tesla Supercharger station with Magic Docks at the Hyatt Place in Moab. Both are open.

Thanks for the info @Proxy. I'm about to receive my adapter any day and I'm curious what the payment process is like. Your note suggests the billing is seemless through your Rivian account. Is that right? Did you have to pre-register or download the Tesla app? Is there any advantage to downloading the Tesla app? Also, what was the rate you paid while charge at a Tesla Supercharger?

Thanks!

I've only done a couple trips where I had to charge and for the most part, it's been pretty painless with EVgo. I'm sure it'll be even easier after I receive the adapter.

Now if we can do something about people cutting/stealing charging cables...

I chose to pay through my Rivian account. It was plug and charge. Yes it was seamless. There is financial advantage to pay through the Tesla App, if you pay a monthly fee to Tesla one can get lower rates. I probably could save a few dollars if I set it up and cancel after 29 days. I believe one has to open the Tesla App and initiate the charge before plugging in to pay the better rate through Tesla.

Central CA rates per kWh early May and mid June in my experience: Rivian $0.36. EA with $8 per moth pass $0.42. Tesla $0.55 (it would have been $0.44 with the pass. It is hard to put a price on the wasted time with EA.

You’re welcome!

I was in Moab last month and used the Tesla magic dock supercharger near the Hyatt hotel. It was hit and miss, sometimes I had to move stalls twice, but every time I went the supercharger didn't have more than 1-2 vehicles there besides myself. At the end of the day I got a charge and all the electricity I needed, but it wasn't as fast as the RAN network.

I wonder if Europeans got this right - their chargers don't come with charging cables, car owners must bring their own.
