Thank you Tesla for building such a great charging network. I appreciate Rivian and Tesla working together to make this happen!
I traveled the same route a month later and having the adapter and access to most of the network was like night and day. One month ago my passenger was on the EVgo and Electrify America app for one hour straight trying to find a place to charge on the same route. We pulled up to an EA station that showed 2 available immediately before we exited the freeway. When we drove up two of the chargers were broken and there were more EV’s waiting to charge than operating chargers! The next fast charger that showed availability was the next to last DC fast charger before I would not make it to another fast charger. The last option was an EVgo with two chargers and 0 available. The next to last was an EA with 4 chargers showing 3 available. It stayed 3 available till we drove up 15 minutes later. Sure enough, 3 available and all 4 operating upon arrival! I plugged in and it worked. Before the handshake happened two more EVs arrived and the station was now full. I walked into the Walmart and before I could make it into the restroom the Rivian app notified me that changing stopped. So I had to go outside to restart it and it worked for the remainder of the session. There was now an EV waiting to charge.
This month I could simply tap my screen and see how many were available. I chose my stop based on which Supercharger had less than 50% utilization. Plug in and charge very quickly without having to use an app or credit card. No need for pushing the limits or having a passenger working full time. Having an adapter and access to most of the Supercharger network completely transformed the road trip experience for me.
