Just came back from camping/light-offroading this weekend with a bunch of other Rivian owners. The tent was awesome. After my little show and tell, one of the owners of a hardshell even ended up buying one.

Waterproofing was great, but those windows collect serious condensation. I needed to take a few paper towels and dry both sides before stowing. Took about 4 minutes to put away between deflating and tightening down the cover. Ladder would probably fit under the cover, but it stores away easily in the gear tunnel for now.

For those complaining about the provided brackets, I didn't have any issue and don't see a reason to change them out.

What are the advantages that the hardshell owners get from the Air Cruiser? Weight savings? Is it any easier/faster to setup or tear down? Other? Thanks for sharing your experience.

I think that specific owner had a bad time with rain falling down the clamshell and collecting under the tent. I believe their tent was around 189 lbs (vs my 80lbs). I'm able to put on/remove this one myself without an issue (trivially easy with another person). Difficulty would increase exponentially if the rack were higher up.

Do you mind sharing your technique for getting the Air Cruiser on Solo? Such is my situation that it would be ideal if I could do so - but I'm in batch 2....

I can just imagine getting down to tighten up the clamps and the tent falls off onto the side of my truck or something

(Feel free to PM if you want)

Sure. I'll try my best to describe it.

I currently have the Rivian crossbars over the bed. I lean the tent on the tailgate (down) and slide it up at an angle (starting from a deadlift position) until it's resting on the rear crossbars, then push it over. Once it's high enough that I know it'll land on the other crossbar, I let it fall. I do it in a flat garage, so it's very stable there. No risk of falling/sliding. From there, I secure the clamps by lying down in the bed. Surprisingly, this method hasn't yielded any damage to the truck and I don't think it will. If I ever have a friend over and we remember to take it off, it would take less than a minute due to its weight.

That's pretty much what I was going to try. Only issue is with the tonneau cover on I can't secure from the bed, I have a tri fold non OEM and this is the only reason I'm annoyed I made that decision - even though I am pretty convinced it is the far superior product....

Did you open the vents at the top in the middle?

Did you open the air vents on the inside? This really helps with condensation. Also, a little trick is hang these up

They work a treat. Let me know if you want guidance on the vents :)

I am thinking of getting one of these for my R1T, being a full time RVer! Will this fit in the truck bed when not in use?

It fits the truck bed perfectly or do you mean in the actual truck bed? If you want to push the button, drop me an email at [email protected] :)

Is there any room to leave a thin blanket in side when closing up or pretty snug? I am still shopping for a tent and I have seen in some videos people are able to leave some bedding inside when moving locations. Leaning towards this route mostly due to the weight and my infrequent use.
I got mine yesterday and replaced the mattress with a 4" Exped air mattress, (Duo LW+). Not that anything is wrong with the supplied mattress (its actually pretty good, its just that I had this Exped already for ground tent camping).

Anyways, when deflated the Exped can remain in the tent when folded and closes snugly along with the ladder under the cover.

I'm sure you can fit some thin bedding in there on top of the standard mattress!

Is the photo perspective deceiving or is that X-bracing in the middle of the tent?
It is, but it doesn’t serve any structural purpose when the tent it up. It helps pull the tent in when it suddenly deflates (and in taking this pic I was getting ready to pack it up

Hi all,
We got our AirCruiser a couple of weeks ago but were just able to mount it this weekend. I had no time but did open it up to make sure all looked well. Hopefully some of you can answer a quick question--

I didn't ever see a button to push for inflation, just plugged it in to my R1T and turned the plug on and away it went. All looks fine. But am I missing something? Not sure what use the button would really add.

Thanks for the shot of the Exped mattress and the name. I'll look for that one. I'd looked a few months ago and it seemed like all the double mattresses were 53" wide and I thought they wouldn't work well in the 51" wide tent.

When I had the tent up I noticed the USB cord hanging in the corner of the tent for the lights, presumably, but is that supposed to hook up to something in the tent? Or do you plug it into a portable battery/charger? I couldn't find the info on the kickstarter page, but thought I remember something was posted. And didn't take the time to look too deeply when I had the tent open.

And I would certainly second (third, fourteenth) the desire to have some locking brackets. A determined thief who knew the product could certainly unfasten the tent pretty quickly. I guess I can run the gear cable through something underneath the tent to further deter.

I'm leaving the tent mounted for a while to see if I feel any difference in driving with it on (other than no rear view mirror vision). Any body travel emough with this to have an idea of any effect?

Cant wait to go try it out in a few weeks to try and catch some fall leaves here in NE.

Cheers!

I can't figure out how to link Kickstarter comments directly, but in one thread someone asked about the bolt sizes and seemed to think that the Wheel Every Weekend RTT security mounts would work. I bought a set but haven't had the chance to mount my Air Cruiser to see if they actually fit yet. Might be an option to explore.

Ah, thanks! I added that to my list of possible gear. The link to the security mounts site is Wheel Every Weekend RTT Security Mounts - https://www.wheeleveryweekend.com/products/rtt-security-mounts?variant=44245427749142
