If they make this for Rivian, I will buy it - even at that crazy price. The lack of CarPlay especially for Messages and Teams is the biggest gap in the Rivian UX. I’ll even keep paying for Connect+ because of the better sound quality of Apple Music.

My first thought was "Tesla will block this in 3...2....1.."... then I saw it works by doing a bypass to the screen connection. Tesla can't block this.

I agree with @MATTELSEWHERE , I would definitely buy (or consider buying) one of these for a Rivian if the functionality is as clean as shown in the kickstarter campaign

I’m not far from the mailing address listed on their website. I sent them an email to let them know they have a nearby Rivian specimen to examine if/when they’re interested.

Tesla may not be able to stop it, but based on the description on the linked article, I predict the government will shut them down pretty quick.

"Any Android App" would include YouTube/Netflix/etc and our friends at the NHTSA are very unlikely to approve of people watching videos on the cars screen while driving any more than they appreciated the autopilot nag defeat devices.

No way I'm putting something between the infotainment screen and the truck computer. If you are really desperate for Carplay you can add the separate screen which runs CarPlay and bluetooth connects. Lots of posts about that.

It replaces the entire UI, doesn’t integrate. This misses the point of a single screen with everything integrated, and easy navigation of the UI

I put this in my truck, it’s really damn good.

......go on. How does it intergrate with car audio and carplay simultaneously? Like if this is hooked up and I get a call where does the call appear.. and if it reads texts to me where does that audio come from? I want DETAILS :)

There have been quite a few CarPlay like solutions for Tesla that have come and go. I suspect this one will do the same.

I’ve literally had this in my basket for a month waiting to pull the trigger. Most of the time when I get something like this from Amazon, it’s garbage.

But you really like it?

This CarPlay device works well in Rivian, stick to dash above main screen using only what’s provided in the box. It’s made a big difference for me with the ability to have Waze/siri/messaging/carplay and phone can function as a WiFi hotspot so you don’t need connect+ subscription.

I also tried a few of these devices and this one works way better than the competition.

I'll make this brief and simple, if you want tech details let me know. It basically uses "dual connection" Bluetooth so the phone sees the Carplay unit as its primary device. The audio goes to the car, but the control goes to the new CarPlay unit. It's shockingly seamless. You can't do things like send the Apple maps to the main car screen. You can say "hey Siri" and get a response from the CP unit, just like you expect. You tell it to play music and it comes from the car speakers, just like calls, and text message read-aloud, etc. I also have my phone mounted up high, next to the main screen, so three screens. The phone with CP does cool things like giving you the textual turn by turn, while the CP screen is graphical. Very useful combo.

I really do. It's probably...let's call it, 80 or 90% as good as real CP in the car? Meaning that there are a couple missing items but better than not having it. Today I'm going to 3D print a mount like the one from EV Sportline. Their CP unit is a piece of shit, but they won't sell the mount alone. I'm using the included suction mount and it's ugly and wobbly.

Unfortunately I don't seem to have saved any pics and I've got it out now to do a permanent mount today (well, hopeful plan anyway).

Sorry, I like CarPlay but this is a bit too much for me. I rather have something integrated with the current screen but, I accept Rivian’s overall position and have moved on.

I have this same unit, probably from your suggestion (it was somewhere on this forum). I like it so far and it’s my second screen. I had one similar to the EVSportline one (theirs came out right after I bought one to try myself) for about a year and you’re right, that is a junk screen. It was usable, but would frequently not connect to my phone and the touchscreen is much better on this new one.

I too have a 3D printed design for the bracket. I’ve had to play around with the angles on it for my previous screen, which translated well on this new screen (just had to raise the mounting hole 5/8”). If you want to collaborate on bracket designs, I’m glad to share my files.

As far as OP goes, I too have been patiently waiting for a more integrated aftermarket solution similar to others available for Teslas. This new one is interesting as it can pipe into the Tesla system. The others I’ve seen utilize the built-in browser with a somewhat complex setup of WiFi hotspot to a raspberry pi module. I sold my Tesla before that became a more put together kit but seems promising. I keep thinking that once (if ever) Rivian adds a browser to their UI that the same type of unit could bring CP to us too. But in the meantime I’m sticking with a 3rd screen. After doing this for a year now, I’m actually preferring the 3rd screen to an integrated solution, because I can now keep monitoring the other vehicle vitals while still having CP maps front and center. Rivian’s lack of split screen ability (maps in IP aside) leave a lot to be desired IMO.
