Had the truck now for about 5 weeks, 1100 miles in and everything has been going great...until yesterday. Leaving for work and noticed the truck was idling backwards out of the garage. Received error message "Hold Unavailable" Also noted ECS system malfunction icon. About 100yrd out of the driveway and then received "Drive slowly performance may be limited" error, with additional malfunction icons showing up including Automatic Emergency Braking and Limited Performance Mode

Had to get to work in a hurry so drove the wifes car. Came home that evening no issues when I got back in the car after it had been in sleep mode for the day. Figured we'd chalk that one up to a computer error. This morning, same thing. Just spoke with CS and of course they recommend trying a hard reset first before putting in a dedicated service ticket. Will try that when I get home this evening.

Anyone else with similar issue?

Make sure to report back if the reset fixes the issue.

I had this exact issue 2 days after taking delivery in late August. Top speed was limited to 20 mph and I was stuck with a highway between where I was and home, so I called CS right away - reset didn't work, so they had me leave the vehicle for 15 minutes to initiate a sleep cycle and that was all it took. It happened again the next day and that time a reset did the trick. I was pretty worried after this happened two times back to back within the first 3 days of having the truck, but since then all has been good. Clearly some sort of software glitch that was resolved one way or another (OTA?). I'm hoping this resolves for you just as quickly.

I was able to run home during lunch today and do the hard reset as recommended. No warning lights after reboot, drove fine back to the office. I guess time will tell. Will certainly repost with update if issue recurs. Thanks for the responses.

I haven't had this one, but it was a similar "Service 12V system immediately" and it limited performance and flashed a bunch of other yellow lights. I finished my drive home with those lights, then rebooted the car. the message has never come back again. Looks like Rivian just has some various bugs to continue working out in their software.

We are currently dealing with the same issue. Yesterday in a minimal amount of snow we had the following warnings. (See Image)

Scared the crap out of us as we had just pulled onto the highway with cars fast approaching. Speed was limited and we pulled off as soon as we could. Called the service center did a hard reset 2X. Didn't fix it so we drove it back home.
Tried again this afternoon with both a software reset and a hard reset. Same issues and warning images. We are apparently over 400+ miles from the nearest service center. Great service so far but we will be out our truck for at least 2-3 weeks assuming no other major issues are found.

I'm sorry to see someone else having this problem. I assume they are going to tow the truck for you? I'm in (nearly) the same boat as far as distance from SC and having a major service issue has always been my biggest worry. Please let us know what the final diagnosis and fix turns out to be.

Just to update with my situation, I''m about 48hrs out since I did a hard reset, and so far the truck has been acting normally. I will say its left me a bit on eggshells everytime i start it up though. Luckily my day to day driving is within a 10 mile radius but have some real reservations about driving any distance at this time.

So the craziest thing happened. We had been working with our Rivian SC tech on getting it flat bedded to the service center. After sitting inside the garage and thawing out i drove it around in loops around the property. The warning indicators were still present so with a couple of hours before the truck showed up I stopped and did a hard reset. I noticed 1 of the warnings went away. I reset it again and all the warning symbols went away, I cautiously pulled out onto the highway expecting the turtle warning with limited speed to appear but nothing. I drove it around and everything worked perfect. I called the SC and canceled the truck. Fingers crossed but with normal driving today we have had no issues.

Same in our R1S. Rivian told us to let it sleep overnight and it would be fine. Next day everything appeared to be ok. We drove it to work. No warning lights and then later that evening (after driving all day) got a call from Rivian they had done a remote diagnostic and the car shouldn’t be driven. They came the next day and picked it up from the driveway via flatbed truck.

I seriously wonder if the most recent OTA Update, 2022.43.2 , is to blame? Immediately after I did this update, I had a couple of error messages, and wasn't able to drive the vehicle normally until I did a hard reset. It drove fine for about a day but then started getting "motor unit fault detected" warning almost every morning...but it would go away after a couple of hours. The truck still drives normal, and there are no other issues. I have a service appointment scheduled, but it isn't for another month! I feel uneasy driving it too far destinations this is figured out.

I’ve been through the exact same issue, and the warning lights did show up intermittently at first. Hard resets would sometimes help. It did start after the last OTA update.

However, I brought to the nearest SC and they are now telling me I need a new battery pack.

So I’d pay attention to this and get it checked out if it persists. Easier said than done of course, being far away from the SC.

I just had this same issue. A hard reset fixed it for me.

do you call the service center every time you do one? I’m thinking it may be good to have it logged/remote diagnostic run.

I decided to call the service center and they said no need to call if a restart fixed it.

I had this happen to me just last night in my R1S. Had a couple of notifications:
  • Service 12v battery immediately
  • Awd mode engaged. Service vehicle soon
Speed was limited to 61mph, and I could not switch out of all-purpose mode. Acceleration was also greatly limited.

Like for others on the thread a hard reset worked. I called service anyway to report the issue and they said they were getting quite a few calls like this, so it sounds like it could just be a software thing.

One new shortcut I learned is that if you hold down your profile icon on the top left, it captures a vehicle diagnostic. I could not see any notification but the bell icon did get a yellow dot on it a few seconds after I did this, and there was a 'vehicle diagnostic captured' notification in there.

I've actively followed this forum for quite some time. Have had my Rivian R1T for 2 years with no problems.

In October, took a long trip (6 Plus hours) with multiple fast charges. In The midst of one of the fast charges every light and error on the dashboard came on. Car was not drivable. Did all the hard resets. Nothing happened. Rivian appropriately set me up with rental car and Uber as needed but were going to tow the vehicle to nearest Rivian shop. Quoted cost for tow was over $2,000. While I had to sign off on the work request, Rivian assured me that if it was a warranty issue the cost would not be mine. Still made me leery. However, next morning after car slept we were able to drive the vehicle away and we let Rivian know to cancel tow and have been driving since.

Went on another long trip now in December. After three fast charges same thing happened on the 4th. Car was undrivable with every error light and message coming up on the dash. Called Rivian explained to them situation has happened again. Asked for tow to be set up but that we would try out the next morning. After car slept all night, was able to go back to car and drive away again and able to get home with no issues. Rivian is considering this a safety issue. I'm getting scheduled for service.

I'm a big fan of Rivian but am concerned if I can't trust the car on a long drive. Rivian suggested that it might be if the battery wasn't conditioned prior to a fast charge. While, I appreciate this, the only way to get the battery preconditioned is to have it set up in Rivian navigation for every time you do a fast charge. I responded that is not reasonable for us to use the app just to have battery condition each time we stop, especially if we know the route. Also there is no manual button to start battery conditioning prior to charge.

I will update after I get any additional information from rivian or service.
