Hello All,

Thought I would introduce myself as we got a 2025 R1S, Rivian Blue, Dual Motor, Large Battery, Performance, Sound and Vision Package, 22" Sport Bright Wheels, Dark Out Package, Ocean Coast+Dark AshWood Interior, Air Compressor. This is for my wife which replaced her 2021 Model Y Performance. So far so good. Delivery went well. No major issue. One minor issue with a black plastic panel on the drivers side bottom of the door not aligned properly. Could barely tell. But wife caught it. :) Hoping to absorbs lots of information here as I have been reading many of the previous threads. I drive a 2024 Lexus GX550. So yes we have 2 big SUVs :) Will post picture later on. Hope I can contribute as much as many of you do.

Thanks,

Spikeitaudi

Very cool color. Welcome. Any questions? New owners get a free pass for like two weeks I think for asking the same thing everyone else does. I forget what the timeout is set at but ask away, you're in a safe space (for a while anyway ;))

Congrats! Love the colour. I'm trying to convince a friend to get a dual large R1S. I have a quad r1s. It's been relatively trouble free. For example, it went in for service a few weeks ago and they scratched up one of the wheels. I sent a text and the manager called and sent mobile to replace with a new wheel and tyre. This is a great group to get information on your car. Almost two years and I'm still learning. All the best!

So my first question as I could not find an answer to this, in my old tesla Model Y performance when I would drive at highway speed lets say 65 and then get on the acceleration pedal hard, it would accelerate quickly without any hesitation or gear change obviously. In my R1S Dual performance, when I do the same at 65, i feel almost like a gear change or something like a quick lurch then it goes faster. Only happen if I get on the pedal hard. I also noticed this same gear changing/lurch feeling when going at 40mph or faster and then engaging sport mode. Is this normal?

Also the proximity unlocking is driving me nuts. I am hoping it is just an Iphone 14 thing as I hear they are working on this?

What you're probably hearing is the rear motor engaging to accommodate your extra "go faster" request. In the Duals, the truck will disengage temporarily the rear motor for efficiency. Then when you mash the go pedal, it will reconnect the rear motor for more performance.

Here's something to try. Put it in Sport mode and repeat the experiment. In sport, both motors are on all the time.

Ok I found the thunking issue is with the dual motors only and hopefully will be addressed on a future update. Will send Rivian ticket in anyway.

Will try that I did notice that when I put it in Sport above 40mph it thunks also.

I would be interested to here how you like the Rivian compared to the GX. it's near the top of the list as a replacement when my Rivian lease is up.
This could take awhile. I got my GX550 in late December of 2024. It's a Premium with basically all option a Premium can have. Mind you Premium is the GX550 base model. I have to say I love it. It rides really well. I put Falken Wildpeak A/T tires on it and went a little bigger in the tire size. Does not ride as well as the R1S but it shouldn't as it is box on frame truck basically. From interior size perspective the R1S winds hands down. More leg room in second row and much more leg room in 3rd row. And in the R1S with the thrid row in use you still have some room left over to put luggage in. When the GX550 third row is in use. Good luck getting anything in the 3rd row. Lexus does a good job with the interior and the drivers screen and infotainment system does not have nearly as much stuff as the R1S does, but work extremely good and the Heads up Display is awesome. Exterior fitment and quality? My R1S did have that one panel issue which they fixed at pickup the Lexus was flawless. The GX V6 Twin Turbo is awesome. It really moves the 6000lbs truck quickly, not as fast as the R1S but fast enough. Gas tank on the GX550 blows. Its around a 15.5 gallon tank and you get a best around 310 miles on a tank. Which is kind of a joke. I took a drive up to Cape Cod this weekend and driving there and back I saw about maybe 15 R1S/R1Ts back and forth. I only saw 1 GX550 on that same trip. GX550 Premium has a tow rating of 9900lbs R1S I think is around 7700lbs. Both trucks are great and do what they are built for. Primary reason we got the R1S is to replace my wife Model Y Performance. We wanted to stick to electric for her commute and it meets our needs perfectly. We have 1 kid in college and another that is playing Junior Hockey as a 16 year old in HS. So we need to haul alot of gear. My Thule racks fit on the roof of the GX550 and assuming it will on the RS1 with no issues. When hauling in the GX550 with the roof rack. I don't even know it there. :) Ask me any other specific questions as I am not sure I covered what you are looking for.

Great feedback. In particular about the fuel tank and unloaded range. We've done some road trips in the Rivian, and it's not bad, but it's not as great as the ICE vehicle (Audi Q7) we traded for the Rivian. We also tow, somewhat often in the summer, and we have "just enough" range to make it to most lakes and back, but it's close. Arrived home this past weekend with only 15mi of range left after leaving at 100%. While not a huge issue for some lakes, that particular one didn't pass a charger on the way there or back, so it could be a VERY large issue if conditions change. Sounds like the GX would have a similar problem based on the tiny tank. Our Q7 had a 22gal tank, so it would make 250+mi while towing without breaking a sweat.

I really like the look of the GX, and could be swayed by the reportedly higher reliability of the Lexus brand. I miss an opening sunroof as well, which is a MUCH bigger deal than I thought it would be.

I would go straight back to the 4M chassis from Audi, but I've been off road a few times in the Rivian now and somewhat enjoyed that time. I'm also now living in the south towns of Buffalo, so the 14in ground clearance is nice when mother nature drops 40+in of snow on us in a day.
