1 week into R1S ownership. Overall, It has been great. Car has some panel gaps but that stuff doesn't bother me or my wife as much. Just a couple of questions I haven't found definite answers to and a couple of non-dealbreakers I am hoping will get fixed over time.

1) Heating - I live in the northeast and it has been impossible to get the heating just right. I usually leave my cars (have 2 tesla's, audi and a mini cooper) at 70 deg. With Rivian - it blows cold air at 70 and blasts hot at at 73 -75. This has been the most annoying part of my ownership so far. I have been driving by turning on and off the heater manually. I am hoping a update will fix this in the future.

2) Charging port app access - I haven't fund a app access to open the charging port. So, I have been unlocking the car and touching the "open area" to get it to open. I really hope they change this in the future app update. I don't want to be touching salt, ice, bumper all winter long. Do people have other alternatives to do this?

3) Vampire Drain - This has been the most concerning part. We have been losing anywhere from 4-6% a day just sitting in our garage with everything turned off. I have read hours and hours of posts trying to see if there is anything else I can do to help this. We have two tesla's in the same garage that lose about 1% a day. I am not sure what the car is using all that energy for...? That 6-7 KWH a day just sitting there. What has worked for people here?

There are a few other quirks but nothing major.

The hvac issue is a complaint of many on this forum. One of my biggest issues I have with mine. So far thats how it is unfortunately.

You can open the charge port door from the center display. It's next to the open hood command if I remember right

That is some serious battery drain. Are any of the seat belts buckled? If you check on your app, is the vehicle going into sleep mode?

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
The vampire drain could be a number of things, but the most common seems to be a seatbelt plugged in or a door left not fully closed. If the truck suspects someone is in the vehicle, it will keep most of the systems active.

Turn off Gear Guard as well, as that will eat some battery.

In addition to opening the charging port from the same screen as the hood, you can also open it from the charging info screen on the center screen as well.

And you don't have to close it all if you want. it will close automatically when it shifts to drive.

I am in the northeast as well. Congratulations on the R1S!

The vampire drain could be a few things as described above. If you haven't done so already set your home location. Then, change gear guard settings so that it's off at home. You wany it to be on when away from home for security reasons.

As others have pointed out seatbelts, doors not fully closed will also do it.

On the heat I have found 71-72 usually does it for me. It may help comfort to turn on only the floor and windshield vents in heat mode.

Or ask Alexa.

But the OP seems to need to open the charger port door while walking up to a locked car. I'm not sure what the use case is for that - I'm always plugging in right after I get out of the car and before I lock it.

1) I think it depends on a combo of internal and external temps, so if you start in a warm garage and go to colder outside, it might change system based on those changes. I've found mine to be between 70-72 and just put it to 74-76 on lowest fan setting. I also cycle rear vents on and off to add/subtract from front vents.

2) funny, I never had a problem with external touching to open until last night. Wet, dirty, salty, cold, hot, no problems. Last night, it was pretty dirty and touching the outside wouldn't open it, even when I wiped it clean and breathed on it ?️. Had to use the buttons inside, yeah that's annoying.

3) Like others say, that's excessive. Check your plugs, doors, GG, etc.

Im in the northeast too and I actually find the Rivian does a better job than my Tesla at keeping the cabin at where I set it. The Tesla has all sorts of poor seals on the windows and little insulation in general.

For the drain like others said check seat belts arent plugged in and all openings are fully closed (yeah you sort of have to slam most of them) as its not uncommon for them to be partially shut.

with all the recommendations above, you also need to check the vehicle after idle for awhile capable of going into "sleep" mode. You can do this by open the Rivian app and look at the top right corner to see the "moon" sleeping icon appears. If it doesn't, it means something is preventing it from doing so. My vehicle normally going to sleep mode after 10 to 15 mins of idling. If you already done all the recommendations above and it still doesn't go to sleep, I would suggest create a service ticket for them to check it out

Thank you everyone for the replies.

Setting at 74 and decreasing the fan actually worked great. Thanks @Riviot !

In terms of the Vampire drain its 4-6% in a 24 hr period (2-3%) overnight. I made sure everything is completely turned off. There is nothing on the seats and no belts. I did turn off open/close from proximity at home. And the car does go to sleep when I open the app. However, when I opened the app now. There is a temperature icon on the right upper corner and When I tap on it - it says cabin temperature 50deg. Does that mean the car is not in sleep mode? I haven't touched the car in 48 hrs.

Also one other update - I haven't been able to have my phone charged on the QI charger. My service person told me that Rivian will be sending all owners a replacement for that part very soon to help with charging for the Apple phones.

That means it is NOT sleeping. I can post a pic once mine goes to sleep, or maybe someone else a few drinks ahead of me not using theirs!

Yeah the HVAC isn't the greatest programmed one out there. It is all over the place sometimes.

I reached out to service, they made me do a hard reset. That seemed to have decreased the drain a little bit. However the truck does not go to sleep. It looks like the cabin temperature is around 50-52 deg. The rep said it could be because of that. Apparently, R1S battery likes to be around 55-90 deg and thats why the R1S is not going to sleep. Has anyone else heard this?

No. What's your external temps? I haven't driven at all today with garage in the 30s, it's been asleep for 5 hours and cabin temp is at 46, I just checked the truck and battery is 51.
