Were you at least able to pull off to the side of the road?

That photo makes it seem like your 10ft out from the curb...

My gosh. That first message seems pretty horrible! I hope Rivian can get you back on the road quickly. Keep us informed on what the root cause was. Good luck!!!!

Wow this is awful. I would be extremely frustrated if my 10 day old truck did this.

Others with similar messages had a failed drive unit. Can and does happen with new EV. I can't count the number of Tesla that have had failed DU early on.

I'm confident Rivian will take care of you and your truck though.

Doesn't matter all that much but bricked would typically mean no electrical power...eg.. no screens, truck will not respond or unlock etc....but I understand why you used that term here.... equally frustrating. ?

Please keep us updated.

Yes! Why?
Now that I saw the screen shot again, I can see why you asked why it was in Snow Mode.
I've had an R1T for over 1 year.
I purchased an R1S ten days ago for my wife.
My wife has always driven small sedans, she was not confortable driving a large 3-row SUV, or driving an EV.
I suggested she use it in Snow Mode for the first couple weeks since it has the lowest re-gen of any mode.
The R1S stalled on my wife. I was not in the vehicle when it happened.

I took delivery at 0830 and by 1230 and 30 miles or so, My S stopped, albeit after warning me for a couple of minutes to get to the shoulder of the highway I was on. Power was intact, but wasn't budging. Towed back to SC. Narrowed down to a failed drive unit. 2 weeks tomorrow, and they are waiting on the part from Normal I presume, possibly Bosch factory.
They have been apologetic and accommodating, resetting my 7 day return time to start after getting repaired vehicle returned to me and offering a rental car.
This is my first EV. Needless to say I'm a bit antsy.
I'd love to find out if this is a common occurrence, but I guess if it was, they would keep the drive motors in stock. Here is a motor teardown YouTube video. What an engineering feat. SO MANY CHIPS in the inverter. What could possibly go wrong?

Sorry about the repeated info, but you EV nerds are an incredible resource. Thanks in advance.

Mine threw a drive unit when they were loading it onto the truck. They fixed it before I got it, an I've had it since September with no problems since ::knock on wood:: Rivian will take care of it and you'll be gtg.

No. The Rivian started to lock up until it came to a complete stop, then it wouldn't move at all
Curious to know the exact behavior. Did it brake? Did the accelerator become unresponsive? Were you able to pull over safely and exit the vehicle, or did it just slam on the brakes? How fast were you traveling when it happened? Any guess what the behavior would have been at highway speeds?

Our R1T didn't brick but we had it at the SC for 3 weeks while they were trying to figure out why we were getting a "headlight system not working". We had it in for about 4 days and they said they fixed it. On the way home from picking it up it came on again, and again.....and again.

So, they came out and picked up the truck and dropped an R1T off for us to drive while they looked at it. After a week of having it, they said they had to escalate it to a "super tech" that would be able to fix it. After another week they said "We are flying in an engineer/technician from Normal, Il to figure it out. They let us know that they had to use an endoscope to trace the wiring through the whole truck and found a wire that was shorting out that aspect of the system. The great thing is....they kept us up to date on everything happening.....and we got all sensors replaced (they thought that was the issue. We only had 714 miles on it at the time.

Don't get discouraged....Rivian will make it right! If they would have had ours for for another week, they offered to make our car payment.

Thanks for posting the video! I had not seen this one from Monro and I learned a lot about the design. I feel a little better now that an R1S may be arriving for me in the next couple of weeks.

I was up to 75mph for the first time on a busy stretch of a Texas toll road when a nonspecific warning screen like this came up and warned me to get to the shoulder quickly and the acceleration pedal became less responsive gradually. I initially thought it was auto braking like my Volvo, as someone was slowing down in my path, but clearly the car was intentionally slowing itself down. I'm not sure of the timeline, but would love to see a second by second log. I didn't think to take a pic of my screen, but the warning symbols were completely new to me. I can't even find them in the manual. Makes sense for the checkout ride(I was with SC rep for an hour) to include possible scenarios and warnings. I recall that one of the symbols looked like a drive unit? I got a prompt response from the main Rivian service number who had me try a hard reset to no avail. I didn't wait very long before rebooting again which is apparently a no no, as needs a while to reset everything once rebooted. That's why they call it an Adventure vehicle?
