Probably a good 2/3 of the Rivian members here are Tesla owners... just saying.
The majority of Rivian Forum posts are generally negative about Tesla. That’s not a surprise. The tone, however, is unfortunate from an EV community perspective.
Just traded in my 2023 Model Y for the '26 R1T, and Teslas still look as lifeless and vanilla as ever to me. I had zero issues with the Model Y, and zero issues so far with the R1T either — build quality has been perfect.

My MY was the original design, right before the Juniper refresh, and I much prefer that older exterior. The new ones look like minivans to me, and the interiors feel emotionless. Overall, I prefer the Rivian's look and feel by a wide margin.

I'm sure the engineers and teams at Tesla are talented, but their CEO has become a liability and has damaged the brand beyond repair for me — I won't be considering them again.

Hoping Rivian knocks it out of the park with the R2 and keeps refining the R1.
Why does a company’s CEO matter to your purchase decision of a product? Tesla’s product is intended to be an appliance. Thats the point. It is about autonomy not a feel good experience. If you want something else, go for it. Regardless of the CEO.

It's an echo chamber in here unfortunately but the real world suggests that Tesla will still sell a ton of vehicles despite the petty boycotts and "before Elon went crazy" bumper stickers.

Because we live in a free country and plenty of people vote with their money. You do you.

That doesn't matter. A critical issue is still level 4. Supervision is expressly allowed under level 4.

under level 3 you DO have to pay attention. You have to identify failures of the car outside of the car's driving task and instantly react to them. If your car gets a flat tire under level 3 you have to instantly react. The car is not even required to issue a warning

levels of autonomy have nothing to do with liability. Supervision is allowed

The problem with level 4 is it's not possible for consumers to have level 4 at large scale At scale, you would have to report accidents according to SGO requirements, which is much more strict than normal FSD. Consumer would have to do active work while paying $99 a month to use such level 4 software
Per Gemini

Levels 4 and 5: Corporate & Product LiabilityProduct Liability Laws: Because there is no human driver required, accidents caused by system errors fall under product liability, software defects, or negligent maintenance by the fleet operator.Shift to Commercial Insurance: Autonomous fleet operators (like Alphabet's Waymo) carry massive commercial liability insurance policies to cover damages, completely bypassing individual personal auto insurance.

That's wrong because section 8.2 expressly allows a supervisor. There is no mention of liability in SAE J3016

Either way, if you have to supervise, it's not super useful. I need the car to drive itself while I sleep in the back.

Exactly. Run errands, mow the grass, go into work for me when I just don't feel like it.

Whomever gets there first, the other automakers are done for.

The logistics of enabling you to sleep is billions of dollars a year. This only works if you have millions of cars

it's not just a technology issue and I suspect it will be stupid to buy any other car the second you can road trip while sleeping

My Model Y was the original design too, it was actually pretty nice looking IMO, what they did to it with the "refresh" is just horrible. I certainly wouldn't buy another one.

This was mine just before I sold it to Carvana..

The ridiculous Juniper front end...

What they did to the rear end is even worse, it's like grade school level work!

Mine..

They have a new ICCU part number since January, so I'd be willing to take a chance on it now.
But I like the Rivian more.
Yeah we lemon law’d our EV6 GT due to the never ending ICCU frying issues. I wouldn’t be that confident in KIA addressing it with a solid long term solution. Great car outside of that problem.

Back to the Model Y L - yes it still looks like
the ugly egg just like the X and regular Y.

You have to pay attention. L3 and L4 do not require attention. It’s that simple. Cybercab and the Robotaxi Ys are Level 4. Customer cars still require attention aka Level 2.

I suspect that at some point, multiple automakers will have it, just like every car today has ABS
