I have just been researching information on battery life on Opal (our R1T), and the best ways to extend overall battery life. I am seeing different information for the different battery chemistries (types). I think that Opal's battery is an NMC type, but I am not sure. Opal was produced in March of 2023.

Is there anywhere on Opal's documentation or her app that designates the type of battery she has installed?

Mu understanding was that large packs were NMC in the original quad versions built 2022-2023 (mines 2022). But I did not think that was documented anywhere.

now I’m curious, if you have an LFP pack (standard size I believe is one of them), does the infotainment and manual recommend charging to a higher SoC?

is max pack LFP?

I believe Gen 2 with standard packs are using LFP batteries at this time.

everything other than the Gen2 standard packs are NMC so far.

Thank you all for the information. Rivian should put this information in the vehicle specs in the app.

Why does it matter? I don’t think Rivian should advertise the battery chemistry

It matters a bunch because the different battery types need different charging regimens to achieve the optimum service life.

Not exactly for service life. It is about maintaining proper battery calibration. Basically to keep BMS happy, not the cells themselves. Most wrongly assume LFP packs can and should be charged to 100% all the time for battery health and it won’t degrade much if at all. This is not really true, unfortunately, and manufacturers are adding to the confusion by telling consumers to constantly charge to 100%. I know Rivian does because I’m getting constant notifications, texts and actual human calls to charge to 100%. The app will even change my max charge limit to 100% despite setting it lower. Annoying, but I get why

And Im sure Rivian will offer a different recommendation for a different battery type.
