what is this if not a spare tire? A Magritte painting?

Fine for a Corolla on I-95, completely inappropriate for being deep inside an adventure assuming that adventure is anything above a dirt road.

Again, not a real spare for the R1S. Not in the context for off-road.

Maybe I'm wrong, someone who does this for a living chime in and tell me it's fine to get pulled out, slap this on and be on your way in 99% of situations.

Frankly I'm kind of miffed at the entire idea of a spare tire because I blew 2 at once a few months ago coming off of sand on to black top. Some good the spare did me, luckily I was close enough to home to get the winter wheels and bring them back.

Do you know what a logical fallacy is?

Apologies, but you're going to need to explain to me what the logical fallacy here is.

The only thing that's clear to me is that you're not understanding why a "less than donut" spare might not cut it in a lot of situations the R1S is designed for. I'm willing to cede to a "professional" but I've worked 20,000 acre properties in service and I'm not exactly inexperienced.

Dirt roads? No problem, I'll put 10,000 miles on 4 of those on dirt roads. A trip where it's me and maybe another buddy to pull me out and now I got 9 miles of terrain between me and a dirt road? Seems sketch. Also seems like the end of your adventures for that trip.

Sounds like the beginning of an “adventure” to me! ?

you’re stating there is no spare tire at all available for the R1S(in a thread about the R1T’s full size spare being optional, oddly).

There is a spare tire available on R1S. But you’ve gone all “no true Scotsman“ about it for some reason. I haven’t said a thing about its efficacy in a given scenario other than that it should work in a pinch.

Yeah you're looking to get outraged about something. Donuts are fine for the road, "available inflatable donut" is not the same as a spare. People used to not buy regular passenger cars if they came with donuts instead of full size spares. Trucks and SUVs? Forget it.

This is a purpose-built off road "adventure vehicle" without a full size spare, that's the headline and if the donut is great for how you plan to use your R1S, that's great.

It's a donut, not a spare, calling it "inflatable spare" is the same thing as calling a used car "pre-owned." It's not a spare as most people consider a spare. 19" skinny tire is not a spare to me.

Because I refuse to cede a donut is the same as a spare? Ok.

This is not a new distinction sir. And it's certainly extra important when off the beaten path.

You can ignore me, but I'm not the idiot here. You're coming off like a fan boy apologist.

It's not a donut. It's full diameter but it's stored uninflated to fit in the space available.

They have different ones for the different stock wheel sizes?

It's still not the same thing. There's a reason even Rivian puts a full size spare on top.

I'm a little shocked this crowd is fighting me on the importance of a real spare when offroading,

All the tire diameters are approximately the same. Wheel size is irrelevant.

Anyone who is really serious about off roading is going to invest in another set of wheels for it. There might not be any options right now but that's just a matter of time.

I think Rivian knows who will ultimately be their main customer base and that includes a LOOOTTTTT of people who think camping means staying in cell service and "roughing it" in a glamping tent someone set up for them.
They don't know how to change a tire and a spare would be a waste, not to mention a small ding on efficiency for no reason.
For folks that may be actually off road AND out of cell range, by all means, learn from OP's mistake and CHECK THE BOX. Get a spare. AAA won't help you if they don't know they need to!

Oh I have absolutely no problems with it being optional, I was only taking issue with the R1S not having an OEM-integrated option at all. But I guess we're off the beaten path ourselves here since OP was asking about his R1T.
