Normal, IL RAN station is operational

After reading that Astoria OR station is about to open, I checked the map. And the Normal, IL site is up. Only four sites are left - Pismo Beach, CA, Wickenburg AZ, Albuquerque, NM , and Columbus, TX. I wonder when we find out about other ones.

I can confirm Normal is up. I stopped there twice on a road trip in early January.

It was hard to get Rivian’s nav app to pick the Normal RAN station. I think it was because it was new. The RAN station is in the parking lot of a Schnucks grocery store. Setting Schnucks as a destination let me pick the RAN station.

Normally, pardon the pun, I can get from the Chicago northwest suburbs to Springfield with 20-25% of battery remaining. A week ago with single digit highs for temps, I limped into the new RAN station with 4%. That’s about 60 miles short of my destination. Color me surprised. There’s a very nice full service Schnuck’s grocery store right there, so I was able to pass the time usefully picking up several items and getting some lunch. Thirty minutes later and back on the road to good old Springtucky. Overall, excellent location.

It's actually been up on plugshare for a few weeks! I noticed it takes a few weeks from a site going live to actually showing on plugshare.

It has been running a month or so. Agree the Schnucks parking lot is a good location. They are trying to compete with Meijer who has the Tesla charger in town and Walmart has EA (avoid). Because of employees this RAN site gets a lot of use, or at least was busy both times I've been there. Walmart EA was terribly busy all the time with Rivian vehicles and derated all the time. Meijer in Champaign has both Tesla and a nice relatively new EA facility (solar). Have not been to Springfield RAN yet.

Yes I charged at the Normal RAN back on December 29 on my way to WI for a ski trip over NYE. I like this sign they have posted there.
I also just noticed the other day that another RAN has opened up since then in Springfield, IL.

Actually Springfield opened first. Maybe Peoria is next (Tesla is still the only DCFC option in 400,000 population metro area?).

Oh really? Maybe so. I just didn’t recall seeing it as an option during that trip to WI. Agreed about Peoria..
