Too add to it, even if I wanted to go get an ICE Tahoe or Expedition or something, it is PAIN because with the shortages and the escalation of price for those vehicles the last few years (even before the pandemic) you are only about 20k away from the R1S. That is what made the R1S such a no brainer, it was practically even money for an Expedition.

The more I think about it the more I think I'm just going to wind up bending over and taking it this summer if/when my R1S is ready. It will be tough to tell people how awesome it is without the "but it is a fortune." Only good thing is that the used car market is so hot that our current explorer has probably appreciated the same amount for resale :)
I hear you. It's one thing to pay over sticker for a new car that nobody can get, it's another to pay a premium for a ICE Tahoe or Expedition that you know isn't worth it. That would sting way worse to me than paying more for the Rivian.

Rivian R1S is really the only thing that satisfies my requirements for a capable off-roader SUV for overlanding. That's why I was sticking with it even if I was affected by the price hike. I put in a Hummer EV SUV deposit just in case Rivian fades away or some other craziness happens that I never get an R1S.

But the Hummer is definitely not optimal. Huge weight means it's going to struggle/slide when going up loose terrain. Its efficiency is also laughable.

Lack of a full size spare took it off my list, which is a shame because the shorter wheelbase would be preferable to the R1T.

And I still think it's something Rivian should seriously reconsider. For a (now) $80k+ vehicle, and one marketed at outdoor adventuring, this should have a full sized spare as at least an option, if even it means they redesign the rear door to accommodate a wheel mount.

If they decide to do a wheel mount on the back gate, being able to get one of these wheel covers would be the one thing that might sway me from changing my R1T to an R1S.

I only do enough off roading to go backpacking, camping, fishing, etc so I might not know what I'm talking about here, but...

Can't you just put one of the receiver hitch spare wheel mounts on the back and call it a day? I feel like from Rivian's perspective it would be easier to throw one of those in for free as part of a package instead of the design issues with adding the spare. I feel like most serious off road owners want to have that or a top rack with the spare up there instead of something integrated into the vehicle.
