if you switch from 22” to 20”a but went with the 275/65/20 size “34” tire, then your speedometer will be dead accurate. If you went with the 275/60/20 “33” size then your speedometer will report one to two mph over actual speed.

I have tested this multiple times using dedicated gps apps, Waze and now even google maps :)
Any idea if a 285/65r20 tire will rub?

This is one of our most-requested features, rumors are that someday it may happen.
Tesla has had this since the beginning.
It's not hard to implement.
Hopefully soon.

They should fit just fine. I am loving this ride that you’re on going from matching your 33 inch diameter to possibly stepping up to 34.5 diameter just so you know the service center will not adapt your wheel size or tire size to anything outside of what is OEM

I really wish Rivian would allow us to swap at least through different OEM sizes so people can adjust these things as their needs fit. Like the OP here who wants to have off road tires only when he goes off roading.

Another use case is to be able to go from the 34" tire to the 33" so you can then have the option to add chains in the winter if needed. Snow socks aren't the same.

thanks for the observation, is there like a formula to calculate this? Thanks!
Tire Rack has a very good FAQ on the basics of tires, including understanding the numbers on tires as well as how they are used to calculate. There are countless online calculators to do the math for you. Example: https://tiresize.com/comparison/

Speed, distance traveled (odometer) and range calculations all require knowledge about circumference of tires. The more your actual circumference differs from what the vehicle software was written for, the more inaccurate all of those instrument readings become. Exactly why you want to keep overall diameter the same or identical, when swapping tires, regardless of wheel size.

275/55R21

275 = tire width in mm
55 = sidewall height in percentage of tire width
21 = wheel size in inches

I have been saying all along that Rivian needs to do what Tesla does. All OE wheel tire options she be user selectable on the primary display. Range wheels for on road and AT for your off road adventures ?

About to get delivery on my performance dual max r1s.

Knowing how capable the Rivians are off road, I do want to take mine off road, however it will be maybe 5% of the time. So I chose my R1S with the 22 range wheels.

But for that 5% of the time, I want to be able to have a set of 20" offroad 4 wheels/tires in my garage that I can swap on the fly if I get a chance to go off roading on a weekend.

I asked rivian, and they said the only way to swap tire/wheel sizes is to take it to the service center and they have to manually reset the wheel/tire selection in the computer.

To this I ask, has anyone requested or given feedback to Rivian so they can add an on the fly selector in the menu to change wheel/tire setup?

I understand that there could be hundreds of combinations, but all I ask is for Rivian to add the 3 or 4 wheel/tire selections that Rivian sells and pre-set them in the menu so that I can change my wheels on the fly between street and off road.

Any thoughts? Thanks!
Yes it has been suggest without reply. I have the OEM 21”. I bought 20 wheels and run a 275/60/20 tire that matches the 21” diameter. I do this for my winter/off road tires and run the 21” for long trips.

The head of software said it's coming during an AMA on reddit in June but no sign of it in the wild I know of, and they've promised things before that didn't materialize. Even so:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Rivian/s/pBr5YSFEOx

Seems like a pretty clear "yes it's coming" to me. I swap between AT20s and 21s and just deal with the Speedo being off, it's nbd really.
