Having lost my original fob, a mobile tech brought a new one and paired it. Predictably, I found the original months later. Is there (or will there ever be) a DIY solution to paring the now-dead fob? TIA.
You can contact the SC and ask them if they can come re-pair it with your vehicle. Shouldn't be an issue.

I just ordered the spare tire as I'm doing cross country trip in July.

No way to purchase on the gear shop as it has you call service center who arrange a mobile tech to come out to 'install' it.

I asked ifi could just come pick it up, it's only a spare no need for mobile but was told not an option.

Seems crazy i can't just go there and pick up

At least in the case of our R1S, they replaced the whole inner tub assembly, added a sticker and installed the tire change kit. Took about 30 minutes in my driveway and was included in the price of the spare.

Could someone explain why you would use a fob? Ours never leaves the house. We use our phones to perform all fob services and my wife and I each carry a card in case our phone is lost or the battery dies. The only time I can see carrying the fob is if I was going to use valet parking.

I like having the fob always with me, as it comes in handy to lock and unlock the vehicle, when I’m at home and away from my phone. I don’t need to have the phone nearby. But, the main reason I use the fob is - I have a cellular enabled Apple Watch, that performs most of the most necessary phone functions, like making and receiving calls, texts, or emails, and making purchases at the store. Therefore, I can be anywhere on my property, go to the store, or wherever, and don’t have to always worry about having my phone with me and constantly dragging it out of my pocket to do stuff. The fob effortlessly takes care of the necessary car functions. The watch does the rest ? My dream is to have the watch as a key! This would eliminate the need to even have the fob.

And, with both our Model Y and Model 3 we simply ordered a fob from the Tesla store, it came via FedEx a few days later and we added it to the vehicles with no intervention by anyone at Tesla.. as it should be.
I wonder if that is a newer Tesla or if they changed the process. I had to replace one on my 2016 Model S and they needed to send a mobile tech out to do it.

For some reason the Fobs on the Rivian register different than the other devices. I purchased a second one and Rivian had a hard time getting 2 to work, they ironed it out but was not smooth.

My wife uses the fob, just keeps it in her purse. I’ll grab the other one if going to the car wash, came in handy to use when replacing my phone as well.

Both our Tesla's are 2021 models, so I guess they have updated the procedures and hardware since 2016.

…except that they are 3 hours away. They came here to deliver a new fob when mine was lost, but unlikely they would dispatch a mobile tech for a SPARE fob. If I ever have a serious service issue, I’ll have them program the spare, along with the service issues.

precisely…it’s best use… a valet at a restaurant. You could use your card, but it’s sorta’ on again, off again in reliability

Hey, wait. I thought this thread was about key fobs, not tires.

Back to the fob issue. I recently lost my fob and have a new one coming. As you noted, a mobile tech person will come to my house to pair it with the truck. There must be a better, more efficient way. If I can pair a phone, why can’t I pair a fob? I think I’m going to make another call to Rivian service and get the skinny.
100% agree

The act of pairing a fob to a device should be simple, but enabling that act to simply be done via the customer, in a safe, secured, repeatable, fault tolerant, and scalable fashion is not "as simple". It does require engineering effort, precision, and testing. I'm sure they have it on their backlog and prioritized.

Let them cook.
