I'll explain below why I needed a PDR (Paintless Dent Removal) visit, but I have to say that watching the process was almost magical. I had asked a friend (who works for a PDR company) to give me an estimate to submit to the insurance company of the person who dented our R1S. He stopped by the house and, after looking at the dent, decided to fix it on the spot (in addition to giving me an estimate)! It took about 4 minutes and here's the process:
  • He had me lower the passenger window so about 3" of glass was showing
  • He put a plastic wedge between the glass and the outside frame
  • He slid a long L-shaped tool with a "T" handle into the door next to the wedge and pushed the dent out from inside the door by twisting the tool
I was in AWE - so much so that I didn't think to grab my camera to shoot pictures! It's what he does for a living, but it was truly amazing to watch the blemish completely disappear!

If you get a ding and want to have it fixed, find a PDR place. His estimate (for insurance) was $200! I now have a much better understanding of how these PDR companies pray for hail!

In case anyone cares to read on, here's how the ding occurred...

My wife was sitting in a parking lot getting caught up on email after an appointment and a woman pulled in next to her, threw open the door of her BMW and hit our Rivian below the door handle on the front passenger side. My wife watched her look at the dent and close her door and start to walk away! My wife (W) got out of the Rivian and had the following dialog with the other woman (OW):
W - "Excuse me - you just dented my car."
OW - "Well, the spaces are narrow."
W - "Then you need to be careful."
OW - "You know, a little kindness goes a long way."
W - "I'm not being unkind, but you dented my car and were just walking away. If I hadn't been sitting here I wouldn't have even known that you did it. I'd like your insurance information please."
OW - "I'm late for an appointment - can we do this inside?"
W - "No - I'd like a photo of your license and insurance card please."
OW - "Fine."

I called her insurance and created a claim and am submitting the estimate from my friend. I'm sure the OW thinks my wife is an unreasonable bitch, but just walking away after you clearly dinged someone's car is simply not okay.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
PDR is awesome.

Also, OW is a hopelessly entitled piece of shit.

You guys handled it well and with kindness. I would have considered letting her walk off then calling the cops with a hit and run claim.

I had to get PDR when I first bought my truck because the gear tunnels had dents from previous owner. They came out great

Why are you dealing with the OW's insurance company? You're paying hundreds of dollars every year to have your agent take care of this for you.
