Phone key range

Is there any way to reduce the range of the phone key? The truck unlocks at 10-15 meters distance, meaning I can accidentally unlock it while in the cafe. Ideally the truck would unlock at a meter or two, maybe four. Having the truck unlock without my noticing makes me nervous. Not every neighborhood is where I'd leave a vehicle unlocked. Any ideas welcome.

Sometimes the structures around you will block or reflect bt signals. Occasionally I get where the car will unlock from a longer distance because the reflected signal is boosted. Does it always unlock from a long distance everywhere?

I have my android phone programmed so double tapping the volume up or down turns bt on or off. Lately I haven't used it because updates seem to have made the car less sensitive to wake and or opening.

It should lock by itself. You can always close down the app when going into a cafe or building.

The app doesn't have to be open for phone key to work. If the phone is within the (rather long) range, it unlocks automatically.

I'll try that. I didn't realize that phone key would work without proximity. (Too bad proximity can't be dialed to a shorter range.)

I've submitted feedback several times on this issue. We have a 2025 R1S and R1T and they open and unlock when we go by the front door with the cars >50 feet away. Annoying as all get out! The car unlocking when my wife is still 50-60 feet from the car in parking lot is an invitation to trouble.
Turning it off defeats the purpose of the proximity feature. Our Tesla didn't unlock until we were literally at the door. Dialing the distance down can be done!

I have lots to say on this topic, but tldr. We shouldn’t have to figure out workarounds. Proximity can be dialed down or made a lot smarter by the engineers. Please submit feature request describing how you think it should work. If we all ask for this, it should eventually come.

Turning off proximity prevents the car from unlocking, but still wakes it as you approach, unless they've changed something recently. The BT modules are still active. The whole system is a dumpster fire but at least they have improved the car sleeping a bit more readily.

I actually don’t know if there’s a better way, but I asked the support person I was speaking with to convert this to a feature request and make sure it gets submitted to the engineering team. It would be nice to be able to track the request somehow, but they at least gave me their word it would be submitted to the team.

I have resorted to just turning BT off on my phone while I am in very close prox to my R1T if I need it to stay locked.

I agree the PaaK range has increased substantially over the last few updates, and I find myself looking out while eating lunch sometimes at various locations and see my truck lightbar is on! Or if it is a location without windows to see the truck, I just turn off BT soon as I walk away so I dont have to question it while I am inside, knowing I am pretty close to the truck and it might unlock.
