I do that often, very often really. If I'm with people or otherwise busy, you simply cannot reach me. During wasted time, such as getting around, that's exactly when I can make great use of time and coordinate a social life.

Correct. Some of us have jobs that require us to drive between locations, and employees/customers that communicate with us via text. Having texts read while driving can both save valuable time AND apprise us of important information as we arrive to a destination.

30-40 minutes? I log over 10 hours of driving, while on the clock, each week! Having texts read to me while driving saves me time, and my time is worth a lot to me.

It's also just a basic feature of cars in 2024.

It's also possible to live without a whole lot of conveniences. Including our very expensive luxury vehicles. Somehow you could manage to drive a Yugo too, but I expect modern electronics in my modern luxury vehicle.

Final mount print is done, and the ball attached, now just need a little time to go try it in the car.

My R1T has been in the service center for two weeks now so I’ve had a Jeep Wagoneer for a rental and it comes with CarPlay. After finally getting to play with and learn CarPlay, I have to say that CarPlay is a huge NO for me. I significantly prefer the maps that Rivian provides and just use Waze on my phone. And Spotify is FAR superior on the Rivian’s system than through CarPlay. I cannot wait to get my R1T back (may even check with Enterprise to see if they have an R1S in stock that I can get). So please, stop requesting that Rivian use or implement CarPlay.

Sorry but major disagree here. Carplay works better for music, navigation, messaging, and phone calls. Rivian would be fine except for Apple Music glitching constantly. To be fair these are software issues and can be fixed but after selling my Rivian and going Carplay full time I never have to worry about it because Apple actually keeps up with there updates!

I just connect my phone to the Rivian and play the apply music on my phone no problem. The Rivian screen even lets you skip and pause.

My whole family are Apple Sheep, we have CarPlay in 3 out of 5 vehicles and I must say I want CarPlay! If only for the integration of the phone different map programs like Waze and messages that I can reply to the Rivian navigation is no peach compared to Waze and others. The only useful feature so far is the trip planning!

The market has decided, Rivian doesn’t have car play … yet everyone here has flourished with out it.

CarPlay sucks, full stop. Rivian onboard ui > CarPlay. Done.

I think people that enjoy Rivian's software don't maximize the use of integration. I would be fine if Rivian integrated all of CarPlays features, but they won't, and why should they when Apple and Alphabet have more resources than Rivian can imagine to design CarPlay and Android Auto. CarPlay, and I have been told, Android Auto, integrate your calednar, know where you're going when you get in the car and offer map suggestions, as well as numerous mapping apps to choose from, allow one to send and receive texts natively, allow all music providers, allow you to call on WhatsApp, WeChat, etc., allow you to attend meetings audibly on Zoom, WebEx, etc. I could go on... Those that like Rivian's minimal software are because they just talk on the phpne and listen to limited music sources.... Moreover, CarPlay connects via Bluetooth and closed wifi for a superior connection. Lastly, Alexa is AWFUL! It works fine in my home, but it can't understand names, streets, etc. Siri and Google are far superior......

I didn't read this whole thread because I have a life. But I just don't get it. Millions of people love CarPlay. It can't be that hard to implement when all these crappy car manufacturers have it standard. It could be a major differentiator - Tesla doesn't offer it and never will.

How much time and R&D effort is going into relatively trivial things with the Rivian software?

People want it. Give it to them and make your customers happy. Also, free up some resources to work on other things. Win-win.

Third vote for this line of reasoning - my family has five cars from four different OEMs. the Rivian is the only one that does not support car play. Being able to have one user experience (crappy as it might be with CarPlay) is just easier. I haven't bothered to learn the Rivian's navigation system, I just use Waze off my phone.

CarPlay was released in 2014. Some car manufacturers just integrated it this year.

Well, Ford has carplay and they've shut down the F-150 Lightning plant for 2 months due to lack of sales.

Unfortunately, Windows phones bombed, so they went back to what they were good at and Microsoft and my sock are booming…. Oh, and you can run Windows on a Mac…. ??‍ I just want a more powerful interface…. If Rivian wants to supply it, fine, but seems like a waste of their limited resources when Apple and Alphabet are doing the work for them and are light years ahead in offerings, sound quality, integration, etc …. I want Rivian to keep improving their vehicles. I love my R1S, but they still have a lot of work to do on the vehicle itself; delays, fitment, quality control, etc.
