Is there a way to disable the self leveling on a Rivian? Today after I parked my R1S on an 8-10% grade rounded incline I opened my frunk and was rummaging through my toolbag. Out of nowhere the Rivian started to drop an inch or so. The top of my kneecap was pushed up firmly and resting against the bottom of the tow hook. If I didn't push off immediately after I sensed it starting to drop I could have been seriously injured. I always thought it was a useless and unnecessary feature that wasted electricity and added wear and tear on the suspension system. But now I can say it's a serious safety concern. After I park and leave my vehicle it should absolutely not change its height or position unless I want it to. If there isn't a way to turn this off Rivian needs to provide the option.

Sounds like you have kneel mode turned on. It’s an option to turn off in settings
Kneel mode is not on. The suspension adjustment occured about 20 seconds after I parked, exited the vehicle and opened the frunk. My vehicle always makes random height adjustments. I could be stopped at a light or parked on the side of the street. You can hear the suspension adjusting and feel the height on certain corners lift or drop. It literally occurs on almost every drive. But this time it occurred after I parked exited and turned off (auto off by exiting) the vehicle. Never noticed it adjusting after leaving the vehicle before but that's maybe because it wasn't attacking my knee.

I’ve had it happen at stop lights shortly after starting a drive, but haven’t had it do it after parking like that. Seems like irregular behavior. I would put in a service ticket to Rivian for that because it seems very odd.

Did it start doing it after a certain software update? If so, try a hard reset. That usually solves oddball issues for me.

There is no self-leveling, except in camp mode, and you have to manually initiate that and stay in the car while it happens.

If you have Kneel mode on, then opening the door will interrupt it and it will resume after you've closed the doors.

But otherwise Rivians don't level themselves or adjust height when in park.

So this is not a "useless and unnecessary feature", because it isn't a feature. And it's not a "serious safety concern" again, because it's not a feature.

Instead, there's something wrong with your vehicle. Take it in and get it fixed. I assume you've already done a hard/soft reboot to see if this is something that can be simply fixed through a software reset?

Please, don't put in a ticket for this. It is more common than these folks make it sound. My truck has been doing it for the last 57k miles and it's very normal. No, I don't have kneel on, and it doesn't get as low as kneel height anyway. No, there isn't a way to make it stop or prevent it. Yes, it happens at stop lights and when I get out at various points of the day.

Why does it happen? Speculate away, but here are my theories:
-Adjusting after high-speed aero shifts
-Gyro detects unlevel plane, pre-programmed to correct for whatever reasons
-It ate a big burrito when you weren't looking and had to let out a mean one (see below from over the summer)
-Letting out built-up air in the bags to prevent blowout when it's hot outside

Are you sure you don't have a leak in your air suspension? My R1T has never done this to me in 2.5 years/25k miles, and it's not a feature that is mentioned anywhere in the manual.

The auto-height-adjustment-while-driving feature will lower the height above a certain speed, but by the time you've gotten off the highway and pulled into your driveway it should have already gone back *up* to the low-speed height. I personally don't use that feature.

If your trucks front end is this low after a day or two you definitely have an air leak.

How short are you that your kneecap went under the front tow hook?

The truck doesn’t level itself per se but it will adjust itself as needed to maintain the selected ride height.

It’s normal to have some leak down on air suspension. Turning off kneel mode will prevent lowering after you place it in park.

if you want to disable all adjustment temporarily like for lifting the vehicle or similar….tire change mode under service will accomplish this.

My R1T did this early on. It went away (or significantly reduced) after a software update. The behavior appears to have returned with 47.01

It is very noticeable now.

Yesterday, my passengers noticed that ant almost every red light, the truck kept adjusting itself. Pretty sure it has not normally done that. But not while stopped.

I will add that mine NEVER moves at all when parked. It will definitely adjust during driving. But it stays put when parked. Especially so if a door is open

That would probably be a really good idea for 'testing' whether there are any leaks or anything further to be concerned with. Great suggestion.

All-Terrain > Set to Highest > Place in Tire Change mode and leave it.

If the truck starts lowering again, or the compressor keeps kicking on, you have a problem.
