IMO, the Silverado EV just became the most compelling EV truck on the market. Rivian is going to have problems if GM can really ramp up production.

I’m not too worried about it. People buying Rivians right now aren’t buying them because they are cheap. The Rivian is still a more luxurious and capable truck overall. If range is the issue you’d probably be leaning towards the Chevy before the price cut.

I wouldn’t cross shop those unless I needed the added range for whatever reason.

Saw pricing reported on Electrek and noticed how competitive they are to the R1. The product itself is certainly more utilitarian than the R1T, and posses more style than the toolbox-like Lightning. Range it certainly has. What it doesn't have is the Rivian brand. It might take some sales away from Rivian, but honestly those are likely the lot that doesn't pay much attention to branding; preferring to find security in a more familiar brand. I don't think Rivian will suffer much. And Like RJ have said, the entire market needs more options.

It definitely has a lot going for it as far as utility and range, so lower pricing could steal some sales from Rivian. I personally don't like the way they look so I wouldn't consider it either way. Plus I don't want/ need a vehicle that big.

First time truck owners would probably find the size challenging.

To be fair I feel the same about the Lightning or any full size truck. I'm a single person and I want to be able to park in my garage. Just need space for bikes, camping gear and a dog or 2.

I think any problems are likely more long term. It seems like GM's Ultium platform strategy has really hit. They are probably looking at economies of scale that will be difficult for others in the segment to match. As for the short term, I think there is enough differentiation between the R1T and anything GM offers that it shouldn't take too much away until the more off road variants start coming out.

The company that should probably really be worried is Ford, but with what we have heard from them, they are probably aiming for more smaller cars that they think they can make a profit on anyway.

I don't think I have seen more than 5 WT trims and I'm in SE Michigan where the vehicle was designed. This is the model that should have come out first, not the work truck.

My next truck will likely be a Lightning. For me the R1T is both a gateway truck and a gateway EV. But I don't need all the fancy stuff the Rivian does so a Lightning (or maybe the Silverado EV) would work great. And it has a lot more interior room than my Riv. That's important since I'm 6'5" and my kids will likely both be over 6 feet before too long.

The Rivian material choices and finishes don't compare to trucks from the big 3, yet these trucks are priced the same. I paid the same for my Lightning as I did for my R1T, and I couldn't justify paying that much for a vehicle with so much plastic inside (The Lightning interior is mostly plastic). The Silverado EV looks to have just as much plastic as the Lightning.

I'm confused are you saying the Rivian has a better or worse interior? The new Ascend interiors are really high quality—much higher quality than a legacy American vehicle.

I read it as saying the Ford and GM have higher plastic content for similar premium.
