I am going to have to say....I am not all that impressed with the Ascend but I commend Rivian for getting the attention they are, with a minimal amount of changes.

Seems a different stiching pattern, color pallette, and some cloth pieces are really impressing people which as a sales person....I find the elegance of their sales pitch impressive...and impressively successful. But I see alot of snake oil with it.

I still like it...and wouldn't hesitate to get a new TM or QM with it, but would rather have them keep all that and bring back a truly premium audio system like my Meridian.

Edit....To Don's point...I have not seen one in person...so maybe I will change my mind when I do.
I wasn’t too impressed with the listed changes either, until I sat in one. If the gen 1 interior takes you 80% there the ascend adds another 15% IMO. So you’re at 95% premium.

The contrast stitching and added details are spread throughout the cabin and has a general premium feel. There are tons of little details, and that’s where premium matters. It’s also harder to convey over pictures and text and can be missed by someone who doesn’t have an eye for detail.

As someone who has shopped vehicles at that price point a while those little details are the differing factor. BMW and Mercedes( except for the retro futuristic garbage lately) get it, Cadillac used to get it(and is starting to get it again) and Range Rover gets it.

Then you have companies like Aston and Rolls that take it to the extreme. GMC and Ram aren’t there IMO. They use nice materials but the style isnt there. Rivian isn’t going to be as overt about it because their style is modern so they have a simple design language with premium materials.

They got the language down on gen 1, and now Ascend takes it to that small detail oriented fleshed out level that really executes their chosen design style.

I will hold my ultimate opinion till when I sit in one. I see what you are saying...and I like all that.

I am just sort of admiring how much excitement Rivian has been able to generate with changes that don't seem to have much cost associated with them.

I do like the original seat stiching with the Adventure trim and the cloth strip up middle. To me....that actually looks more premium than the Accend plaid pattern. Same with Chilewitch mats vs plaid. But again...that is on paper. I need to see one in person to truly have any valuable commentary.

I do think some interior designer at Rivian or Jeff himself has a love for Singer Porsche and I think we are seeing that influence in all the designs. And the Accend seems to show some of that. The R3X really shows that influence.

I'm coming from 2 GMC Sierra Duramax trucks to my R1T and while the refreshed Sierra greatly improved the interior quality it's still nowhere near the RIT. I also much prefer the somewhat smaller size, and agility of the RIT. True they're both pickup trucks but they are worlds apart just about everywhere else.

Absolutely correct. You obviously get what I’m saying, and I’m fairly confident you’d agree with me if you sat in one.

When I get mine there will be an in depth review posted on here about the interior.

I can't wait to get the chance! I can't hang around at the service center too much or they will get creeped out. But...there will be signs!

Work Truck with max range: $77,795, an EPA-estimated 492 miles
RST with max range: $97,895, an estimated 460 miles

Don't think prospective Rivian buyers will even consider the WT even with that range.
RST has great range and nice exterior styling, but interior is crap for that price.

Need nice interior and range: GMC Sierra EV at 99K+, but exterior is crap IMHO

They are always trade offs.
I agree. But I was just saying they crammed a lot of range in there. I also think the market for a high trim, small truck isn’t huge.

The S will outsell the T for that reason. For a truck the R1T appeals to the Tacoma buyer that has more money to buy a premium vehicle. Still a limited market and those who need a full size truck for working reasons are going to struggle.

I think the R1S holds up in the large premium SUV segment quite well but the R1T is a niche buyer.

I'm not going to lie. If today me was looking for a new BEV truck and hadn't already purchased (and had experience with) my Rivian, I'd likely be all-in on getting a Silverado.

But now that I've had time with my adventure truck, and enjoyed it for my needs, and can appreciate the driving experience and ride quality of my R1T, I can't imagine a scenario where I'd ever look elsewhere (assuming Rivian continues to improve).

That range tho...
BUT, efficiency is also a huge point. AND if I'm being verily honest with myself, I really don't need more than the ~300 miles of practical range I can achieve. I've literally never been 'close' to running out and to date I've done 0 DCFC (that will change next Friday).

Not sure I've contributed anything at all to this thread, but for some reason I felt compelled to share. I'll go back to my corner, now :) (I have some filters to test)

We just purchased a Silverado 3WT. It is a perfect work truck, for the crew. The interior is very plane, no carpets and good range. This is an actual work truck. The GM dealership want GM to make the Canyon an EV.

The Ford and Chevy look like a combination of a 1990s truck with the button bullshit of a 747. It's a horrifying array of old-think and ugliness inside. If Chevy modernized it, they'd simply crush Rivian.

It definitely has a lot going for it as far as utility and range, so lower pricing could steal some sales from Rivian. I personally don't like the way they look so I wouldn't consider it either way. Plus I don't want/ need a vehicle that big.
Now an electric 4WD Maverick might sway me.

I think that is what MANY people are waiting for, which is probably why Ford will never do it :CWL:

Coming from a 2016 model X and 2018 model 3 Range was #1 thought. Real Range. The Silverado was a definite candidate for me.
My Wife was ‘no ‘fing way.’ :p She didn’t like that style no matter the range.

after range consideration style/tech/use cases made the RIVIAN platform an easy choice(for us) for the value regardless(to a point) when pricing is similar or even less for the GM. Price that work truck at 55/60 I’d add it to the stable. It’s a different value prop and use case as others have mentioned.

The upcoming Cadillac Escalade with a range like that may add more competition imho. Would need a pet mode though.

As an aside So far the fact that the range on the screen equals real world range most of the time in our R1S is freaking amazing. And my Tesla induced range anxiety is almost all gone. Almost.

I have the 4 filters I'm ready to test. I'm 90% finished with the design of the test fixture (that will adapt to our equipment). Should get that fabricated within the next week and hopefully testing the week (or so) after.

That's all I'm going to say about that here, though, because I don't want to derail this thread :)
