Where is the setting to enable auto lock without also enabling PAAK? I only use my fob, since PAAK is so bad.

Example from today: I spotted this unlocked R1T in my neighborhood and I started knocking on doors to find the owner. Luckily I did, and she reported having locked the truck upon leaving. She says it must've unlocked when she relocated her purse within the house at a distance of more than 30 feet from the truck. WTF Rivian?!

Ethics question for the community: would it have been bad for me to open the vehicle to reach inside and press the lock button if I couldn't find the owner? I would have left a note inside. Creepy, or reassuring?

Having accidentally left mine unlocked several times, I'd have preferred someone looking out for me. I don't know if others feel the same.
I don't know - I don't keep BT on my phone enabled so my phone never interacts with my truck in any direct automated fashion. You don't need BT enabled to use the app.

Went to the slopes yesterday and passed by another Rivian with all of its handles open. Passed by a 2nd time 10 minutes later and it was still open. I guess theres not a timer on the locks? I always listen for the sound and check my app to make sure the doors are all locked.

So--we are still driving a Tesla Model 3, 2020, and love the automatic locking mechanism and the folding side windows. Rivian doesn't do that? We always check to hear the beep and see the mirrors folding...

If it had been my car, I would have soooo appreciated you locking for me!!

But you do need it on for hands free calling, I believe. Unless they implemented something cool that utilized the vehicle's WiFi hotspot, which I am always connected to.

I loved the proximity auto lock on exit with my 2015 Tesla using just the key fob. I never used PaaK or proximity unlock with the fob.

The whole lock/unlock thing is f'd up and a weak link - it can be overcome with software to a degree but some can't: FOB has to be one of the worst designs ever as well. I don't know how many times I pulled it out my pockets and keys fell off because spring is weak.

It's not intended to be used as a keychain... I clip mine to my belt loop.

Another feature I don't use ? I don't answer phone calls while driving (or while not driving, really ?)

Bad... no, but I would not go into someone else's car regardless of good intentions. In your example I would have done the same and knocked on doors / made an effort to identify the owner.

Nor would I want anyone going in my truck (if they ever schedule me for delivery). I think of the owner or me catching some stranger with their hand in my vehicle.

Yeah the phone key has always been fickle for me. I use it religiously though and just keep the key card with me as well. I hate carrying keys.
It works but not as quickly as i'd like-- takes about 3 looooong seconds of me standing with my hand next to the for handle lol. i just can't get in as quickly as i could in other cars. the card is def faster, but don't love pulling my wallet out to get in my truck.

I have turned off the proximity lock unlock. I used it for about 2 weeks. I'd go in the garage to get something and the car would unlock. I think it's a great feature but I don't think it's a very smart way to go about things especially if you're in some urban setting with your cell phone working as a key. Be careful what you wish for.
add your home address and select the setting to not use proximity while at home. problem solved.

The only problems I have with PAAK are when I’m working in and around the truck for a period of time and it constantly locks/unlocks and then seems to get confused and not do anything automatically. For daily use I have no issues walking up and having it unlock and walking away and locking. When I’m parked for the night I either turn on camp mode or close the app and the truck can no longer use proximity lock functions.

It’s not perfect but functions about as well as other brands proximity lock/unlock key fobs that I’ve had.

Ive tried to lock the vehicle from the inside and then shut the door and Rivian doesn’t support it. All the doors will lock except for the one you are using to get out after locking. For example, I’ve leaned in from the drivers door, hit the lock button and then shut the drivers door, and all doors will lock except for the drivers door. The handle will continue to stick out and it won’t lock.

Yeah I was thinking about just locking it for the owner. But started to think about it and also this use case where only one door handle would be open. Better to have them all out so it looks like kind of normal.

This has happened to me when mountain biking. It takes a few minutes to get gear out, get the bike off the vehicle, get changed, walk to the parking kiosk for a ticket, etc. All the time the thing is locking and unlocking. You really have to be hyper aware of what it's doing.

I've switched to fully-keyfob locking because when camping or just hanging out (e.g. gearing up at a trailhead/MTB/ski hill), the perpetual phone lock/unlock dance makes me crazy.

My number one feature request for Rivian is a "lock-only" prox key mode. I don't ever want it to unlock when I walk up or hang out by a truck I've locked, but I do want it to lock when all keys have left the area (even if previously unlocked manually).
