i am currently going through the purchase process, completing various steps such as uploading drivers license pictures, pictures of the car that I'm trading in, etc. My current remaining "To Do's" are to get insurance and to sign the contracts. My R1S is due to arrive at my local service center on September 9th, which is about 3 weeks away. I'd imagine I'd be picking up the car within a week thereafter. Regarding signing the contract, I'm tempted to sign it all now, just to get that step out of the way. Has anyone run into any sort of problem signing your contracts several weeks in advance? I could just wait until a few days before, I suppose, but I tend to like to get things done as soon as I can. On a related note, my guide did tell me that one of her recommendations is to hold off on final payment until my vehicle arrives. I'd appreciate any advice! Thanks.

I have heard the same that payment should not be made until the vehicle has cleared all checks. You can even pay the day of delivery with a cashier check to minimize risk of paying but not taking delivery.

Personally I want to at least see in person what I'm buying before blindly sending money to a company. You should be able to bring in a cashiers check on delivery day and pay that way. At least you can see the unit rather than just having all your money gone if there's something you don't like about it.

I held that and insurance until I knew the car was QA's by the SC and they told me it was ready. Also didn't want to be paying insurance on a car I have no idea even really exists or not.

We were told that we had to pay 48 hours in advance of picking it up. We financed through our credit union and didn't go with Rivian trade-in or financing. We signed all the other paperwork pretty much right away.

They usually get the vehicle in a week before and check it out. I would reach out to the service center and have them check the fit and finish of YOURS (using the VIN) and report back. Maybe ask if you can come down when it arrives so you can inspect it.

As you may or may not know, the R1S has had some (not all of them) fit and finish issues.

Interesting...my guide hasn't even activated the "Sign Contract" or "Payment" steps yet even though my R1S was supposedly shipped via rail on 11-Aug. I don't mind, but just interesting that some are having those steps open up well before their vehicles arrive at their local SC.

My purchase tasks were available right after I made my choice in the R1 store. They told me about 4-6 weeks for arrival and was told that the purchase tasks are independent of shipping. I was contacted this past Saturday 8/19 that I can schedule pickup this week, Thursday or Friday. I went through my own credit union and was handed a cashiers check which I need to bring with me at pickup. The Sign Contract option appeared when I selected added all of my credit union and payment info. It said something like if your bank needs a contract to produce a check, sign contracts here. I did not have to make payment before pickup, just send them an image of the check, which I did yesterday and that completed my tasks and set my car ready for delivery status.

I was told that as long as the ACH shows as "pending" by 3pm the day prior to pickup, I'd be good to go. That said, I used Plaid and had no problems. I was trying to hold out for Max pack but ultimately selected one from the shop in March. Everything went super-fast from that point. Biggest delays were transferring money from my Synchrony account to Bank of America (Plaid didn't work with Synchrony), and getting a train ticket down to the closest (at the time) SC to pick it up. Congrats on the truck!

How did y’all find out it shipped? Mine is supposedly in Normal.

As soon as I selected the vehicle from the R1 Shop, the 8 steps opened up, and I finished everything, except the payment on that day.

In CA, all you have to do is to provided a valid insurance card, since the law allows 30 days to add the vehicle upon taken a possession. I did not have a trade in and did not finance the vehicle so it was very simple.

I know some people are uncomfortable with doing ACH, since it needs to be done couple of days in advance, you can take in a cashier's cheque on the day of the delivery. I just used ACH via Plaid.

Speaking of delivery, the service center will contact you to setup an appointment for the delivery - not your guide. Once we had that, I added the VIN to our insurance effective on that day.

I completed everything a week before except for payment, insurance and PA. I did those two days before.

I got a text from my local service center stating that it had been shipped via rail.
