I've owned my R1S for almost three years, and it has to be one of the most comfortable cars I've owned. I test-drove an R2 recently and sat in others at the Rivian space several times, and I find the R2 seat a little narrower and harder to adjust to reach my comfort level. Have others had this same experience? Is it because the R2s are new, or are they just not as comfortable as the R1?

I just drove the R2 this morning and then got into my R1S. The R1S front seat is definitely more comfortable. The R2 front seat is narrower and harder, however it fits with the R2s more “sporty” character. R2 is definitely a home run, especially at its price point. R1s front seat is definitely not twice as good for the price differential.

In my opinion the seats in my R1 are more comfortable. For my R2 test drive no matter how much I adjusted the seat I could not get comfortable. However, the R2 would not be for me so I wasn't overly concerned.

I've always found that the R1 seats, for the driver, lacks lateral support (bolster) and too wide. I find myself sliding or being pushed over and have to fight to not be moved over during cornering. It is more of an individual bench seat than a bucket seat.

When I got in the R2 seat, I found it much better and felt like the seats in my other vehicles with proper support for my body type.

While all vehicle seats and controls are designed to accommodate 5th percentile female to 95th percentile male, I think that this is not a general answer kind of question.

It is highly dependent on the individual body type/shape/size. I am 5-10, 175 lbs proportioned with 32" waist size. Someone bigger or smaller may not have the similar experience. Also the comparison experience is magnified in either direction if one goes from large seat to smaller seat and back to the larger seat one right after another.

I found them the same way, much more side supportive and tighter, similar to our tesla, where my R1 is flatter and wider. I actually that sportier "hug" from the seat.

I noticed the same thing. It's 85% of an R1 in every regard.

R1 is supposed to be a "bit more" luxury so it makes sense. Ive never paid too much attention to seat comfort. Perhaps I should. The sensitivity might depend on a persons preference and overall health as well. For example, someone with back issues would be more sensitive as well as someone that works out a lot and is constantly sore.

I noticed my R1S seats were harder than my older Rivian vehicles when I first got it. I don't notice that anymore. I suspect there's a wear-in process that makes them more comfortable. So I kind of expect the same thing for my R2.

I didn't notice a comfort difference between my R1S and the R2 I test drove. That said, when I stepped on the accelerator and was pushed back into the R2's seat, I felt a "pop" as the upper seatback deformed and then popped back into place like the lid on a snapple bottle. I'm still not sure if that was a bad example or if all R2s are like that.

This was one of my complaints on my first service ticket. They took my seat apart and couldn't find anything wrong with it. You can feel this by just pushing in on the upper support area without sitting in the seat. The official answer was that it's to Rivian's spec (which is bullshit).

I went and checked the demo at my service center, and it did the same thing. I'm therefore convinced all of the R2 driver's seats do this.

Interesting. When I pointed it out to the Rivian rep, he seemed surprised. That's what made me think maybe it was a defective unit. If they're all like that, then that's a bit disappointing and the only thing that actually feels worse to me between the R2 and my R1S

I'm actually planning on putting a matrix sensor on my seat and taking measurements to submit with my next work order. I haven't had time to do it yet.
