I don't see it getting a significant delay. The R1S should be easier to build than the R1T, and we've seen them roll at least a few of them off the line from the drone shots. They just can't have the employee priority program in place...
Curious on what would make it easier to build than the r1t?

Drop the shell on the frame with another seat in it basically. The R1T has the tonneau and gear tunnel assemblies.

And they spent a ton of time learning how to build the R1T. The R1S is analogous to rhe model y ramp vs the model 3 nightmare. Calculus was much easier the second time you took it. ?

Lack of that positive comms I think speaks loudly.
Never take Rivian lack of comms as anything other than SOP.

I’m not going to say it won’t or can’t happen but in the delivery poll on this forum there was only 12 people that said they had a March/April schedule for R1S. The larger windows were June/July at 63 and July/September at 78

I thought I had seen one person with an R1S with a guide contact but do not recall the thread. If I find it I will update this post.
that’s me

I have been very nervous about this for at least 6 weeks. If they announce R1S is delayed 6 months or more you’ll be able to get RIVN stock for $20 I bet.
I believe that this company has potential and certainly is capable of being a major manufacturer of EVs over the next few years - my concern (especially of late) is the poor execution by Rivian to meet deliveries for a car that has been delayed for more than 1 year.

I would like to invest, but unlike those who bought shares during the IPO, I will wait on a few key milestones, such as my R1S delivery (yes, I restored my preorder) should demonstrate that they were able to survive the initial ramp and (hopefully) create some operational efficiency along the way.
At 55k cars (about the number in line that I am) there will either be more positive press and word of mouth, or...well the opposite.

This initial ramp is going to determine their blueprint for profitability and I will be more comfortable with purchasing stock in Rivian at that point. Till then, I can imagine the mental fortitude required by those that own shares now. My (uninformed) belief is that $40 is not the floor and shares could drop to ~$20 before rebounding (let's see what the numbers look like on the 10th).

Now that this long UAT is done and real deliveries of the R1T have started (meaning, people that don't have an employer non-disparagement/confidentiality clause), some more vocal/public assessments of the car (capability and quality) will be coming out. I can't wait!

I’d still hold out hope. March/April R1S is akin to Jan/Feb R1T - they will both be missed but hopefully ramp and catch up after. My opinion is that they are running a 4-6 weeks behind where they hoped to be, but with lower volumes have the ability to catch up.

Perhaps the comms group was directed not to actually say anything recently given the FUBAR outcomes it has produced.

The fluffer routine worked pre-IPO especially given the vehicles' capabilities, but now the focus should be all about execution. Execution, vehicle production, butts in trucks, shoring up the executive team.

There is no excuse for the continued lack of information and communication, but I think you will start to see R1Ss coming off the line asap. They don’t need to go through the whole employee purchase “test” period again.

Shouldn't take too many vehicles to get the issues distinct with the R1S to get ironed out. 95% of the parts are the same as the R1T. Software was probably one of the bigger things that held up getting trucks to the general public, it's easy to fix down the line, and since we know that the latest update re-enabled the rear HVAC display, they seem confident in it at this point.

Did Bezos keep his Blue Origin R1Ss all this time? and there was those shots of the yellow one with the fit and finish tape. Hopefully between stuff like that and the shared R1T components there’s not the beta test cycle again…

$20 would put their valuation below their cash on hand. Which would be a profoundly silly state of affairs for a very reasonable delay.

  • "Coming months"....Is that an indicator of delay? Or a non-committal timeline?
I take that as a non-committal timeline. If they said "days" or "weeks" it would feel more concrete. While "coming months" is intentionally vague.

I'm old enough to remember when CS told us any day they would have a video about the interior for the R1S.....

I expect we'll see a forum user take delivery of a R1S and post their own review before Rivian releases a story on the R1S.
