After needing to use both Tesla Superchargers and the Rivian Adventure Network chargers due to unusually high holiday-related driving, it occurred to me that at no point during charging from sub-10% to nearly 100% did the charging curve get even close to the 225kW rating of the R1S G2 Dual Standard. This is especially irritating as, with mostly highway driving coupled with the colder temperatures, I’m not seeing anywhere close to the 270 mile estimated range (150 miles is probably more accurate). Am I alone in this experience?

Did you happen to pre-condition/set directions to the charger? If not, there's a good chance the battery was too cold to allow high rates of charging. I don't have a standard but in a Gen 2 Large+ I've consistently seen 200+kWh from ~10% to 50% before it tapers.

My curve from a few weeks ago. It typically looks similar to this. Gen2 r1s. I usually set the directions to the charger and so some preconditioning occurs as well.

Yes, while en route to the RAN charger, I did precondition, but my level was too low to do that on the way to the Tesla charger.

I don’t have a picture of it, but my charging curve looks nothing like this - in my recollection, it started around 40kW and slowly crept up to about 170kW until the battery hit 80%, then it started decreasing.

Your pack was not warm enough if it didn't start off at a high rate. Automatic pre-conditioning for the battery isn't always aggressive enough to get there on time or even at all if it's very cold out.

This is my third EV - not my first rodeo. I don’t disagree - Rivian’s are good looking, fun to drive trucks, but as much as RJ touts better range accuracy than Tesla, my experience has been they’re about the same, which isn’t great for either brand. We frequently drive from Wilmington, Delaware to Hershey, Pennsylvania. This is roughly a 175 mile round trip. Even in ideal conditions (~70°, driving with traffic, no inclement weather), starting from full charge, I rarely get home over 10%.
