Today I've tried driving my R1S twice and both times had to wait 20 seconds or more for the vehicle to recognize my I-Phone and then once inside, the car would not go into Drive. It kept asking to put the Key Card near the door. I did this several times over the course of 2 minutes before it actually recognized either the Key Card or my phone and let me drive. It did this a second time when I got back in the car an hour later to drive home.

It has never done this before and when I requested a service appt. at my local Rivian center, the earliest available was in Mid-February!! I'm seriously concerned I will be stuck somewhere with no ability to drive the vehicle.

Is anyone else having this problem? What do you recommend?

You haven't changed the Bluetooth settings on your phone or anything lately have you?

The other day I turned off Bluetooth on my phone and the vehicle gave me those messages as I was driving.

No, never touched Bluetooth, the phone was fully charged and the App was open. What makes it strange is that it didn't recognize the Key Card (at least not right away)?. The safety factor is obvious but it is also super annoying to sit in the car and not have anyway to get it to move!

The only thing I can think is that it was pretty cold today (in the low 30s) and maybe the sensors were frozen?

Give your phone a hard reboot.

I’ve used PAAK for a few years now (MachE, now Rivian); and 90% (not all, but most) PAAK issues have been the fault of my iOS device not the vehicle.

I would agree if it wasn't for the fact that the Key Card didn't register either. I Placed the card near the door as instructed and it didn't see it. It would keep telling me to put the card near the door before it let me put it in drive. After the 3rd or 4th attempt it would finally register and I could put it in Drive (or Reverse).

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
What is the behavior with your key fob? If all three are acting up, do a hard reset.

If that doesn’t work - push CS to get you in faster.

This started yesterday out of nowhere for me too with my R1T. I would have been stuck if it weren’t for the key card. I reset my phone and did a soft reset on the truck to no avail. The super concerning part is that my fob no longer works either which makes me think it’s something on the truck’s end. It’s also weird that the app itself still works when it comes to unlocking the truck or turning on the climate controls.

Yes, this was my situation too. I didn't try the FOB, but the car did recognize the Phone to unlock the doors, just not to get the vehicle moving.

I’m not sure if you ended up calling Rivian service, but I just got off the phone with them and they were able to help me out.

We did the whole soft and hard reset dance on the truck which didn’t help. Then they had me delete the phone as a key through the app. All of a sudden, my FOB worked! I had it with me in the truck during the conversation with the service guy and then there was a chime and I was able to put the truck in gear. I was also able to lock/unlock and open/close the frunk which hadn’t worked with the FOB’s buttons since all of this started. I brought the FOB back inside my house to keep it out of range, then re-added my phone as a key and everything works perfectly again. The service guy had never heard of a conflict between the phone and the FOB, and neither had his coworkers who he asked after putting me in a brief hold.

I would give them a call and have them walk you through everything so there’s a record of the issue. Doing a hard reset also creates a diagnostic note that they’re able to reference on their end. Who knows, it might lead to a change in a future update if Rivian knows it isn’t a one off problem. Good luck!

So I just got back from a trip to the store.. Now the Door won't unlock without going into the App to do it manually (it was doing it automatically before) but the truck will start with just the phone?? It has warmed up here (from low 30s to the 50s) so I'm wondering if it was just a wonky software glitch from cold weather or they pushed a fix between this morning and now?

turn your phone off and on, I went through this problem after an update (2 updates ago) and Rivian service was convinced after all the trouble shooting we did that the truck had broken the bluetooth part.......during trouble shooting we reset the truck, the infotainment, turned a bunch of settings off and on, removed the phone from the truck as a key, readded it...., but they never suggested to restart the phone, once I did that, it went back to operating as normal.

Update: It looks like my phone was the culprit. Why it suddenly stopped working is a mystery to me and Rivian. Their CS guy spent an hour with me troubleshooting and we eventually removed my phone as a Key and removed the truck from the phone App as a key. Once we re-added the phone as a key, it seems to work (although it did give me a notification that it didn't connect and needed to be added again?!) He gave me no explanation as to why the phone would suddenly not be recognized and didn't have any idea why the Key Card took several attempts to be recognized. I have kept my appt. at the local Rivian Service center for next month in case weird wonky gremlins appear again.

Not saying it’s cause or has anything to do with problems… go into your iOS settings, scroll and check Rivian app settings, make sure you have allowed location services.
