Happens for me almost all the. I already took it in and it was marked as resolved but still happening just as often. Got another work order scheduled for May ?. Anyone know if this can be adjusted at home?

Our driveway is 5° per the off road gauges page. I just verified that our lift gate works fine in both directions: incline and decline. It’s worked in other locations which I think have more than a 5° in one or both detections but I don’t know that to be true since I didn’t see it measured. I’ll keep an eye on things in the future.

tl;dr It seems like it is possible for the lift gate to work on a 5° slope in either direction.

I have this issue and just filed a service ticket as well! Has been the case with my R1S since delivery, and I don't have a driveway that I'd consider steep, especially after having lived in San Francisco previously.

Would be awesome if Rivian could release an OTA that fixes it.

Anyone have any stories of a truely fixed version of this?

Well, spoke too soon. Still happens occasionally but not as much as before. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the obstacle sensor.

Thanks for the update. I have another appointment tomorrow morning I will report back to see if they were able to improve the performance of the liftgate.

My driveway has a 7° angle. My Model S would scrape pulling in.
New R1S owner since Defember 28 and have had zero problems.

Update. I just got my Rivian back yesterday with the liftgate issue and I am posting their invoice response.
They also replaced the liftgate trim from the original soft rubber to a harder plastic version that fits into the hinge channels.

"Concern:- Customer states that they are still having issues with opening/ closing liftgate/ tailgate after previous service. Cause: - Strut bracket out of position"

Now liftgate works on a decline angle!
Hope this helps others.
I'm including a picture of the old trim and new
