R1S wait time, not what I thought

My wife and I decided to get an R1S, she has spec'd it out and the configurator said 1-6 weeks for build...great that works. I put a deposit down and then it says you are not building your car just a spot in line and we will notify you when it's your turn...that's not what it said when I built it (1-6 weeks). This is misleading and had I known I had to reserve a spot first I would have put a reservation down earlier.

Even worse, I went to the service center, and never once did any of the salespeople say I had to reserve a spot first. They said things move fast, expect one in 2-3 weeks.

What is the avg wait time? Months, weeks?

I am just disappointed no one was clear on the process.

The website says shop “available builds” that can be delivered in 1-6 weeks as one option. It’s very clear. Or you can configure exactly what you want and wait longer.

They don't have a sales license yet, they are demo drive and delivery specialists. The service center is in the back and I have never spoken to or seen how the service side works.

Rivian doesn't have sales people so...

I highly suspect if you want to get a vehicle before the end of March, that you'll be able to. It might just not be exactly what you want. Sometimes Rivian will agree to change wheels/tires on a vehicle they have "on the floor" though.

Based on my experience, there's no way a new build is ready in 1-6 weeks unless a matching config was cancelled or it is already in the shop or soon to be in the shop. Which means you might get lucky, but there's 5000 diff configuration combinations available so it's a low chancw. More likely the 1-6 weeks delivery is referring to the available shop inventory of R1S. I placed my shop order in Feb, ETD is March.

I’m in Southern California. Ordered online on Feb 1st and picked it up a week and a half early on the 24th. Original pickup was the 3rd of March.

Probably 3-4 weeks is the norm if ordering through the Shop.

1 week turnaround from picking a build in the shop to taking delivery.

if you’re flexible, customer service will work with you to find a build that closely matches your original build and possibly offer some sort of upgrade / discount if there is a small price difference.

End of quarter push helped to put the vehicle on a truck for delivery instead of rail.

I'm an early deposit order and finalized my order on Feb 21. My scheduled pickup date is March 23rd, and it is already in transit.

Oddly, there was an exact match in the Shop, but I wasn't paired with it.

R1S - Forest Green, Ocean Coast, quad-motor, large battery, 21" wheels, no other options.
