We are not giving up on our R1T....here's why.....Rivian is a great company that takes care of its customers.

We took possession of our R1T on May 3rd. We took it and got it PPF'd and about a week later we started getting "Headlight System Not Working". So, we took it in and they gave us a rental for a few days when they called and said it was fixed.

On our way home it started doing it again. When we got home we called and they said they would come pick it up (we are 50 miles from the SC). They picked it up and are letting us drive an R1T LE while ours is being looked at......that was 2-1/2 weeks ago.

They are good at keeping us informed. After a week they said they are calling in the Rivian specialist. They said they tested everything, replaced sensors, and adjusted this and that. They called us today and said that they thought it was fixed and our guide checked it out and didn't even get out of the parking lot before the message came back on. He told us that he reached out to Rivian and the person that is responsible for that will be flying out to look at it.

I am wondering how many times will it have to be looked at and worked on before they throw up their hands and say "We are going to give you a new truck". If they do that, I wonder if they would also pay for the PPF to be reapplied.

Thanks for reading and letting me get on my soapbox.

Frustrating for sure. Rivian is great with CS and making the customer feel appreciated. If you want a repurchase you would likely have to request that. Rivian will not pay for aftermarket additions (it opens Pandora's box). In the case of PPF it sucks because it can't be easily removed and used on the replacement vehicle. How long have they had it? They need to have it for 30 days or 4 attempts before it would qualify.

Sounds like an electrical issue.

I thought they're pricing trucks with PPF from the factory these days, if that's the case you may have better luck with some help on the replacement, and I would bet they'll figure it out BUT in the event they don't I'm positive they'll replace the truck.

Thanks for the information. They will have had it 30 days on July 5th. I am hoping they will resolve it before then.

It does suck if by chance they have to buy it back and they don't reimburse us the PPF cost. I guess that is what they call "The price of doing busy".

No, this was 3rd party application. I have read and seen the PPF from the factory and let's just say, it isn't great quality of wrap and installation. They don't wrap the edges and corners so the wrap can come off easier. If they by chance buy the truck back (or exchange it for another one), I would probably opt for the factory wrap until it starts peeling and we can get the 3rd part wrap.

I am confident they will figure it out, especially if the person that was in charge of that part of the system is coming out to personally look at it.

Thanks for the input!

I think they’ll figure it out, too. It could be something unrelated to the headlight unit itself, like a wiring harness with a manufacturing defect or rodent-chewed wire insulation. Yours probably won’t be the last truck with this issue and they’re going to have to develop troubleshooting for this error, even if it is rare.

From what we were told, they have checked and replaced sensors and supposedly the "brain" as well. The truck has only 714 miles on it. My thoughts is that it might be a 12v battery issue or as you said, a loose harness....but I would think they checked all those. As I stated, they have until the 5th to figure it out. Rivian is learning from issues and if our truck is a catalyst for a KNOWLEDGE BASE.....so be it.

What is interesting is that my brother-in-law got his R1T last September and has had ZERO issues. I still believe in Rivian and am not giving up.

You have a great attitude and are very patient. Genuinely hope that they're able to get it figured out for you ASAP.

LOL....thanks. I have learned in my 59 years of life is that there are things to get upset about and other things to be like water off a ducks back.......I am the duck.....LOL.

I think if Rivian SC was giving us the runaround and making excuses, we would be upset.

My wife called the SC and talked to our guide and he was told "Yeah, the truck is ready to go". He wanted to make sure, so he took the FOD card and hopped in the truck and it showed up again. That is when he reached out to the expert person. He could have said "Well, we tried everything....sorry"

You do have a great attitude about this. The PPF ... especially if it's a full PPF is a significant cost. I think Rivian will figure this out though....they are just overwhelmed and are a young car maker. We knew going in that we would need more patience with Rivian. I have been waiting for two months for a service appointment to address an alignment issue with my R1T. I have almost 4,000 miles on the truck now.

Anyone who buys a Rivian right now will need to have patience with service . I would tell anyone....as much as I love Rivian....that if you need quick and convenient service Rivian is not a good choice right now.

BUT...if your patient and want to drive an awesome adventure machine....then Rivian is for you ?

Wife has R1S coming very soon ?????
