I’ve had to tap out and sell my R1T after 18 months. I really liked the idea of the truck and was generally pretty satisfied with it. My reasons for selling aren’t an indictment on Rivian.

I simply realized that my lifestyle requires a full-size truck and I needed better range. My kids are both in college and are about 110 miles away. I would have guessed that roundtrip, plus reasonable driving while visiting, would allow me to make the trip without charging. However, I needed to find a charger off I70 to top off.

These two items (size, range) really overshadow the other items that I need out of my daily driver. Plus full-size trucks have some creature comforts that Rivian doesn’t have.

I like the nimbleness of the R1T and the ability to fit it in my garage in the winter time. Also - this forum is awesome and as a car enthusiast, this has been a site that I check WAYYYY too often. It’s neat to see people genuinely excited about a product and with good reason. I also liked getting meaningful software updates monthly. While some were more meaningful than others, I always appreciated Rivian’s focus here.

The experiment ran its course for me, but there certainly were many many items that are pretty dang cool about it.

Keep the enthusiasm and rack up the miles!

KU is closer.

I rode a Honda CB 350 between Johnson County and KU during my undergraduate training. I would thaw out my hands on the engine block when I brought the bike to school after Spring break

Sorry you had to do that, but it makes sense given your needs. Good luck and maybe we’ll see you down the line again ;)

Different needs require different things for sure. Rivian has ruined me too, but in the opposite way. I really wish I had my Truck here in Nashville but we were worried about the parking situation at our Air BNB which we were spot on about. Driving my wife's sports car in heavy traffic is nerve wracking compared to my R1.

“Please release me, let me go. For I don’t drive you any more.”

Awesome that you really did give this a serious go. Be safe in whatever you end up driving!!

Large, but not Max. With my quad motor, it would state about 275 miles w/ 95% SOC. If I put in conserve mode, it said around 310 miles.

I’m contemplating the same thing but in the opposite direction. Realized I don’t really need a truck, medium SUV would be fine. I have a RAV4 Prime coming in a few weeks and I’ll decide then. Rivian is an amazing truck but the growing pains are painful. 50+ days at the SC give me pause. Hope your new truck serves you well!

I run a 250 mile round trip frequently (NYC to Philadelphia) and I have a PDM with large battery and 21" road tires. With 6 people in the car and luggage, it makes it no problem in the warmer months but can't make it at all without charging in the winter months. The other thing I found was that driver+ uses the brakes to slow down, not regen. If I drive normally my efficiency improves significantly. Let us know what you get next! I don't know many people that can switch from ICE to EV and then switch back to ICE.

Mellowyellow,

On your 250 mile round trip what is your beginning and ending SOC? Currently own a Tesla Model Y, but considering buy a R1T. I do a round trip of 225-250 miles 3-5 times per week. I would like to do this round trip without charging.

Thank you for your response.

I start at >95% and in ideal weather conditions return home at 20%. Depending on weather and traffic I've squeaked home at single digits. As I said, when it gets really cold, I can't make the trip without charging once.

Looks like you bought the wrong version R1T.

Dual Performance Max with Pirelli 21's and you would have easily covered that distance.

Unless you're driving 80+.
