I've owned my R1T for about a month and a half now and since I've had it there is an issue where the truck puts itself into park when coming to a stop.

This happens about once every 75 miles or so in city traffic.

About three weeks ago I took it to the service center. Engineering instructed the technicians to change and/or adjust the rear calipers, which made no sense to me, and the service center added about 80 miles to the truck, presumably to see if the issue was fixed.

Earlier this week the issue resurfaced. When it happened, I called into service and they asked me to hold the hazards on for 4 seconds, presumably to mark or upload logs.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

I believe the truck is programmed to put itself into park at a stop if the driver's seat senses it is empty, but the service center stated they checked my sensor and they don't believe it's the root cause.

Very annoying.

Are you wearing your seatbelt when this happens?

Slouching? I believe the sensor is close to the seat back.

Don't think so. The service rep I spoke with mentioned to me a few people have reported this issue and the logs don't point to a trigger by the sensor.

If your vehicle is in Hold for 10 minutes, or longer, it automatically goes into Park. I've only had it happen once though, in a construction zone.

It does this while I’m on the road, at random stops

It’s likely as the tech say. For some reason the seat sensor is detecting you coming off the seat after you’ve come to a stop. It’s very possible it’s a calibration issue with the sensor + plus your weight shift upon slowing/stopping = butt off seat and triggers the park.

I’ve got a solution for you. Since you don’t have access to recalibrate the sensor, we’ll need to trick it so it thinks there’s sufficient weight in the seat.

3x a day for the next 30 days. Should do the trick. Maintain your normal eating habits in addition to this.

It's missing the filet-o-fish :)

The engineers said it was the calipers/rear brakes and nothing to do with the seat sensor :(

I misread I thought you said others pointed to the sensor. The only reason I can think of the brakes triggering it is if the parking brakes are engaging. I wonder if it thinks you’re rolling back for some reason, interpreting that as a failed hold and automatically throwing it into park. A theory..but an uneducated one

It has to be the seat booty detector. I have a couple ideas:

1. Start paying for everything in change. This will almost certainly require a 100% cargo pants wardrobe, but will keep you heavy enough to not trigger the sensor.

2. Hire a driver with enough booty to keep the sensor from stopping your progress. It will be nice to have company.

I actually have solid reason to believe that it’s the seat sensor. On my R1T the front passenger seat intermittently registers no one sitting in the front passenger seat when, in fact, someone is sitting in it. There doesn‘t seem to be any pattern but it happens frequently and it’s concerning because it turns off the passenger airbag.

You should definitely have that looked at, but the engineers assigned to my case did not see any events from the seat sensors during the moments in question. I placed a call to them again yesterday but I’ve yet to hear back.

I'm struggling to comprehend why the rear brake calipers would be programmed to command the vehicle to go into Park. Should be the other way around - calipers can be set into parking brake position only if the vehicle is already in Park mode....? ?

Have they asked you to do a hard reboot?
