On my Tri, there is one height level below the Auto setting when in Conserve. I imagine it may be the same with yours in All Purpose. Auto selects Low. You can manually lower it to Lowest.All-purpose with auto height (so yes, lowered). I have a dual-motor, so no conserve mode.
I have not tested the difference between Low and Lowest, but there probably is an efficiency gain. Lowest is definitely less comfortable than Low. Low is pretty good, actually. Lowest is closer to what my Mach-e felt like. The Mach-e was rougher, but that is what it reminds me of.
My wife complained about how bouncy my Mach-e was. She would probably complain about going over bumps with my R1 in the Lowest setting.
