What's your opinion on this tent overall. Seems pretty pricey
I have enjoyed the tent. It is well constructed, and I can easily manage the size / weight when loading, unloading, etc. My primary criteria for a tent was that it fit in the bed, which this one does.
How big is the big guy? Have 2 labs one 86lbs. Lift up onto tailgate then lift from there and insert thru side opening
I would like to build something like this. Do you happen to have any drawings?I grabbed a harbor freight atv winch, and made a home depot run to make this tent installer:
To put the tent on, I raise my truck to High, and back into my driveway. I spool in on the winch, which brings it up to level. From there I roll the whole gantry over my bed, and lightly let out the winch until the crossbars click into place. Then I drop the truck to Low, and drive out from under the gantry.
To take the tent off, I do the same thing in reverse.
I've used this thing quite a lot over the last 9 months since I built it. I'd definitely make some improvements were I to build it again, but I can't complain too much.
That's cool, but still really expensive to use a few times a year. If I had the garage space I'd consider something like that.
