There were several versions of FDS/AP on my 2018 Model 3 that ping-ponged between the lane markers. If it only happens when using UHF, it might just be bad software that needs to be fixed.

You most likely need an alignment and/or tire balancing.....
Why would this have anything to do with alignment or tire balance IF it only does it when UHF is enabled?

Drove two R2's back-to-back today. Used UHF at 80mph on the same stretch of freeway with zero issues of any kind FWIW.

Interestingly, I only get the wobble between 60-70 MPH, and not consistently. I haven't been able to reproduce it at 75+ or 55-, but I was somewhat limited by traffic during my testing so wasn't able to fully test the whole range. I was able to reproduce it at 65 enough to catch a video of it for the service tech, though he said his first impression is a software bug since there is no actual steering movement, just the wheel. It's in the shop being looked at now though, so we'll see...

Likewise….constant shimmy between 59 and about 67. Very smooth above 72 mph. Certainly not the end of the world but obviously something is amiss.

Just took delivery less than a week ago. Drove it on a highway yesterday and my R2 moves around a lot, like ping ponging between lane lines. It only happens going above 65+ on UHF.

I am not sure if it is a UHF issue or a high speed issue in general. I also have the high speed steering shimmy that @starbux pointed out on other platforms.

Anyone else experience something similar ?
I picked up my R2 today (8/19), and I tested the UHF on the highway and noticed steering wobble at 65 MPH as well.

In San Diego this week and Rivian is less than a half mile from my hotel so did a second demo drive around the city and on the 5. Thought I noticed this shimmy too! Not long with the demo vehicle and maybe it was just in my head but maybe not 😵💫.

The official diagnosis from my service appointment was "eh, sure seems like a software issue". The service report says "a coming software update will refine the feature" but I don't know if they have specific confirmation of that or if its just a boilerplate "software defined vehicle" response.

I’m not understanding. You have universal hands-free enabled and something is warning you to put your hands back on the wheel during universal hands-free?
I think you missed half his comment. If he holds the steering wheel with hands below the mid point, he gets the alerts, even though he's holding the steering. Nothing illegal or unsafe about this. I always drive when in open traffic with my hands at the bottom of the steering wheel as it's way more relaxing. I'll have to take another test drive to see if this is an issue for me as well. It'd probably be a deal breaker.

I doubt this will take long to resolve, they don’t want people experiencing this.
