Future R2
It’s just a prototype thing. Here’s a pic of what it should look like when it goes into production. Two tow hooks, similar to the R1S.
Or the tow hooks only come with the All-Terrain package. The vehicle in the photos is wearing all season shoes....not A/T's as others have mentioned.

This whole thread is about screw in tow loop that is part of most Jack kits. It's pretty obvious that it's being used on a beta wrapped version of the R2. The pictures do show tow hook points in the bumper. If the beta didn't have the tow hooks, a simple fix for a test drive is to use the use the tow loop in the Jack kit

With regard to the screw in tow loops for recovery purposes, it's my understanding that those are okay for pulling a vehicle straight forward, but that they're not really designed to handle the forces and odd angles involved with recoveries.

Screw-in tow loops are generally not meant for recovery purposes. They are designed for towing vehicles over short distances and are not intended for the high-stress forces involved in pulling vehicles out of difficult situations like mud or snow. Recovery points, on the other hand, are specifically built to handle the dynamic forces of recovery and are typically bolted to the vehicle's frame or bumpers.

Exactly. They are for towing and will violently depart if used for recovery. Fine for the testing trails they are doing where someone needs a tug.

That R2 is looking like a capable little beast with what's the R1 traction control software. Unlikely to be a locker but it's a good likeness.

Conventional suspension ... cannot wait to see what the aftermarket does. 3" of lift and 34" tires and this thing could be beast-y.
Gotta replace macpherson struts with something better, I dont like my odds in the outback without sturdy suspension

Better than none. And as long as it is strong enough for recovery...

II think it's more about cost. Integrated hooks don't add to frontal area, so they make little difference on aero or turbulence/drag.

It's funny how people say they want a EV to meet a certain price point, but then get critical about missing features that would add cost. Same reason I have doubts about the Slate truck. But I digress...
I'd go without the electric door handles, electric air vents, electric radio controls and gladly give it all up for tactile manual/mechanical stuff. Surely that would save money? I'd rather they do that than cheap out on suspension

Toyotas have done well for the last 30 years on struts. Obviously nothing beats leaf springs on a straight axle. I'm just in Egypt tooling around in a fj78 and it could care less about the desert at speed.

Does anyone know the bolt pattern and the offset on the R2. Wondering if my 20's from my R1 will fit... LOL

That DWS06+ was by far my favorite tire I've ever had when I had them on my previous Model Y. Grip and ride comfort were A+.

We need this replicated for our vehicles ASAP. Not sure if it's possible as I'm sure the aspect ratio and sizing is what makes it uhp as

It looks like zero articulation in the front suspension. Not easy to get out of harder situations when the wheels are up in the air. A lift would be a good start but the springs and shocks need to be replaced to make the R2 a true offroader.
