I really liked how wide the high center stop lights on the R1S are. Makes it more obvious if I have a bike rack on the car since the light won't be easily blocked from a single poorly placed part of a bike. Slightly disappointed by R2 moving to this skinny thing.

With the rear window rolled down! You can also get a sense of the size by comparing to the Ineos in the second picture. The R2 looks tiny.

Nearly identical dimensions to current generation BMW X3. And there is a bit of visual trickery happening because of motion blur. In one image is a second generation Mazda CX-5, which isn't very big.

I’d like it if they made more use of the rear bar with the R1. Could the bar be used to provide a synchronous turn signal?

I know this is a detail most people don't care to think about, but I much prefer to have separate amber lights as the turn signal on the rear of the vehicle. R1 doesn't have it, looks like R2 won't have it either.

Anyone know if the rear tailight will have the "animation" features of the R1 Gen2? Hoping it at least has the adaptive headlights.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.

Many people who have seen the R2 and R3 in person are saying that the R2 is smaller than you think and the R3 is bigger than you think. It has to do with their proportions. The R2 looks like the fuller-sized R1S SUV and the R3 looks like rally car hatchbacks from the 80’s and 90’s, but it’s not a subcompact vehicle.

R2 is 185.6" long
BMW X3 is 187.2" long (last year's model was 185.9" long)
Volvo XC60 is 185.4" long
MB GLC is 185.7" long
Porsche Macan is 186.1" long

The segment may have different names in different media, but R2 fits in perfectly with these observable vehicles on the road today.

The R2 is definitely Macan size but more roomy inside.

Yeah, that's surprising because I read an article that yellow rear turn signals were finally going to became mandatory with the DOT. And in the meantime, there were supposedly going to be requirements for those amber turn signals for vehicles to be able to earn the highest IIHS safety ratings. To continue with red rear turn signals on new vehicle seems like an oversight.

Possibly a combination of the lower variable cost of an all-red system combined with exterior designers liking the continuity of the appearance of one color. I heard both of these offered in meetings at my prior other OEM company when Product Planning asked about amber turn signals. Either way, or some other reason, most likely a conscious decision, similar to the unfortunate absence of a solid sunroof shade that the aftermarket is supplanting. Very little is actually overlooked. Decisions we don't like often have motivations that are not always our priorities.

I guess if a top safety rating isn't a concern, then it makes sense. Personally, I think red turn signals are a terrible idea. Amber rear turn signals are a much better option because there's no mistaking them for brake lights. After my last Grand Cherokee was rear ended while I was stopped waiting to make a left turn, I switched to the "European turn signals" option in software for my new Grand Cherokee, which gives me amber turn signals option instead of using the red brake light as a turn signal like every other North American Grand Cherokee. It's a much better option to have that separate amber turn signal.
