My passenger side glovebox has a faulty locking mechanism, preventing it from opening. They tried to fix it during my pickup but ended up needed to order the part. I’m told mobile service will contact me for install once the part comes in.
I detailed / ceramic coated the car yesterday and noticed a lot of minor paint defects, probably nothing that I’ll pursue repairs for.
What kind of minor paint defects, anything the ave Joe will notice?

“OK” is just one family’s opinion. And you can choose to not be encouraged, and rightly so for you and, probably others.

I, on the other hand, will gladly order when our invite arrives. I agree, there are concerns. Yes, that sounds “Polly Anna-ish”. But I’m a 1st gen Kia EV6 owner. Has it been great? Honestly, for us, yes, knock on wood. The ICCU bug has hit HMG’s EGMP platform hard, but fortunately, not to our two.

Yes, there are more than one, two, OK, several/many posts about dissatisfaction, disappointment, and anxiety about nearly everything R2. Conversely, IMO, there are as many, or probably more, satisfied purchasers. They just don’t post that on forums. In my experience, forums are generally where people go to rant. Trying to find if others are experiencing what they have.

So, just like when looking at an early production EV6, I’m doing my research. Consuming everything, written or video, I can. People like Mike Kantorski, Dominic, Jose at Riviantrackr, Travis at Stay Curious, and others, have great information. Even David V. with the seriousness of his situation, feels to me, like he is happy with the R2.

I do understand the concern and anxiety. I honestly felt it with our first EV6. At first it was all about range anxiety.

However, I quickly realized, for me, it was really charging anxiety. Not locally as we had a Level 2 home charger and solar. But in early 2022, for my regular trips between Vegas and SoCal (LA, OC, and San Diego), it was real for CSS1 DCFC charging. Not so much now with NACS and infrastructure buildout.

I’m done with my “rant” now. 🤣

As always, YMMV. You do what’s right for you, your family, and your situation.
For what it's worth, yes my car was flat-bedded to the service center, but I still cannot wait to get it back. I loved driving it and realize that even though having to ship it to service days after delivery sucks... in the grand scheme of things, I think my issues aren't super serious.

I think they'll get my car dialed in and I'll be a very happy owner.

From what I've tracked, so far everyone posting about a major R2 issue (and there have been very few) are being taken care of by Rivian.

Context drives perspective. I’m coming out of a BMW IX50….a car with great reviews and one that I have enjoyed because of the way it drives and handles. The problem; it has been out of service for three months of its 34 month lease. Parts availability was an early problem and debris in the front motor a second problem. I’m realistic; all cars have issues, but I also want to understand what others might be dealing with. I bought a 2018 Tesla Model 3 that ended up being nearly perfect…so obviously I’m not afraid of being an early adopter. I just want to be an informed early adopter.

Again, it's only day 4 with our early production R2. It hasn't bricked, nothing bad. Once we get the kinks worked out, I'm sure that we will love it. Just in frustration mode now.
Little things, door handle will need to go back to shop for part missing, accessories that I ordered are back ordered. Passive entry didn't work at all. Passive entry took me the better part of a day to figure out with the help of this forum and phone calls with Rivian, who were very helpful.
Otherwise, the interior build, panel lines, paint, etc are all solid.

Also Rivian service was great with the free adapter/portable charger issue. If you are in a CARB state, these should be included with new EVs. I didn't know this so I didn't put them in my initial order. Rivian said that they needed to be in initial order or I'd have to buy them in the Gear Shop. I complained, they comp'd them. Solved.

Would I buy an R2 again? yes. Am I keeping my R1T? hell yeah.

Just heard back from Rivian. They replaced my subwoofer but said the blind spot camera/microphone issues are software issues that will be resolved in a future OTA.

Oh so your car wasn't physically disabled and just flatbedded on the tow truck for convenience?

Correct. I live 5 hours from the closest Service Center. 🙃

I'm still skeptical that my issues are indeed software since I haven't seen anyone else report the same problem.

Kinda similar to what happened with David Vaught. He trailered his R2 to the service center too, and then they told him it was all software that would be fixed in an upcoming OTA update.
