Drove by the plant on the way for kid's sporting stuff. There is now a LARGE long white tent on the north side of the building that wasn't there a month ago when I last drove by. PURE speculation, but guessing lots of interesting things going on under the tent.

Also saw a higher proportion of R1's along with EDVs in the rail lot so good to see units are still getting shipped out from sales.

I see. I didn’t know that they actually said that. I’m sure it isn’t an easy thing to do. I was hoping.

When did they say that? They haven't said much at all regarding R3.

Gotta say that, even though I love the brand, car manufacturing under a tent doesn’t sound good. I understand though and I know that there are a lot of very smart people at Rivian so I trust their judgement ?

I don't think they can afford to do it, honestly. I think they need the GA factory to be able to produce the R3 vehicles to have any chance at doing it profitably, at the price point people are anticipating.

There is plenty of room for growth (not the same amount of the Georgia area) and won't be at all surprised if they at least start R3 stuff in Normal. Lots of open farm land around the current plant although I'm guessing the land costs more than Georgia.

That is what I’m hoping for. It should expedite production which seems to be very important.

R3 will be Georgia because the R2 will take up all of Normals spare capacity and then some. I would expect around 100k units of R2 from Normal and that shouldn’t be enough to satisfy North America and Europe so Georgia is needed for R2 before you even get to R3.

Rivian publicly is saying no but my hunch is they are going to leave it open ended for now. lots of different factors can impact what ends up happening.

Yep Rivian will expedite production. For the R2. No reason to make the R3 in Illinois. It will be in the new plant.
