I hear you on this one. I’m working on an updated version that should get the alignment perfect for gen1 brackets without the need to fiddle with it. Gen1 and gen2 are a touch different. I don’t think metal inserts are necessary but rather some tweaks to the dimensions should get it spot on. (Assuming I understand what you mean).

The current design should have no functional differences, though. It is purely aesthetic to center the camera in the hole. But nonetheless, I will improve it.
Spot on with what I mean. Functionally there's no real difference. It's more of an aesthetic issue, albeit a tiny difference, that bugs me, but I'm a bit loony about these things.

What material is the rear camera mount printed with? Mine seems to have warped over time (or maybe just over one really hot day?), and now falls out very easily. While originally a friction fit, the mount now slides in and out with little to no effort, and fell out while off roading yesterday. You can see in the photo that the prongs are now misaligned.

Hi Sidney,

that’s no good! I believe a batch of Beta clips went out that were printed in PLA instead of the more temperature resistant ASA. The PLA is fine in moderate and cool temperatures but warps in the hot weather. I will DM you and send you a replacement clip ASAP.

Another thing to note is that some of the Rivian rims require a larger spacer on the back of the camera mount to clear the rim itself. If the mount doesn’t clear the rim then the clip doesn’t fit on all the way and the clip arms will see a stronger force on them which might exacerbate the warping issue.

I am waffling between the Hitch-mounted (RiG’D) or the Spare wheel-mounted version onto an R1S.

Is there an advantage for either one - maybe better camera view/angle because of location?

The center cap version matches the vertical height of the camera on the R1S better and the hitch mounted version is a closer match vertically to the R1T camera position. This does depend a little bit on how high the spare is mounted and the difference is relatively minor in the end result where the 360-view image stitching is better aligned. The only other benefit of the hitch mount is that it doesn’t need to be removed if changing the wheel for the spare.

Either of them work great for adding the rear view camera back which, for most people, is more than 90% of the actual practical issue. :)

That’s good to know, thanks for the quick reply.
Looks like the center cap version is on “pre-order” - what’s the ETA on those?
If it takes months - I might just go with the hitch version.

hmm, it shouldn’t be marked as pre-order. I made a small change, can you try again? I usually make them to order but often have a few extras that are ready to pack and send within a few days. The lead time is written in the description on page, currently for the center cap version it is 1-2weeks.

Cool!
Just ordered one center cap version for Gen1 R1S.
Can’t wait to put it to use, in time for our overlanding end of the month.

This kit is good to go 👍🏼.

I wish there’s an option to get longer (video) cable because I wanted to run from under the bumper and follow the hitch for cleaner install. An extra 2 feet of the video cable would have covered the whole run.

Looks awesome! Thanks for the photos of the install and for the feedback! I originally had just jumped the bumper instead of going down through the inside of the tailgate and out underneath like you did here. I moved mine in the end but I happen to have a slightly longer cable so didn’t notice the slightly shorter cable doesn’t make it all the way. I’ll consider packing some a couple feet longer in the future. I think your install still looks pretty clean even with the small jump. :)
Feel free to email me and I can see if I can get you a short 2foot extension if you want.

Sent you an email…

Is this the right extension cable: FAKRA C female to male.

Got your email! Just sent you a reply. Should have your cable sent out soon. :)
Not the same as the one you linked.
Great!
No worries, the kit’s installed solid as is. The extra cable just gonna make it more tidy.
Thanks again for going the extra “length” to help me out. 😉
