Hello everyone. Looks like Rivian is including only 2 tie downs instead of 4 in the recent builds. My R1S's VIN is xx855. Not sure when they changed from 4 to 2 tie downs. Does all the recent R1S deliveries come with only 2 tie downs?

From what I've seen, ALL R1S have been delivered with only 2 tie-downs. It's another cost-saving measure I don't agree with, since every single prototype, photo, and story has shown 4 tie-downs, and they much less useful with only 2.

Yea, customer deliveries have gotten 2 tie downs. Interestingly, the media/press vehicles have had 4.

Not suggesting there isn't a valid need for 4 but I'm not sure what that would be. Can anyone offer a use-case involving 4 tie downs, especially with such close front/rear placement on each side?

I'd be interested in using tie downs to secure a large dog crate but the rails are so short and so far back (entirely behind 3rd row) that I still think 2 would be all that would be useful to me. 2 more tie down points up in the 3rd row area would be handy but those don't exist (unless you count the LATCH points on the rear of the 2nd row seats, which I don't).

Not sure I fault Rivian for only providing 2 movable tie downs. It probably covers the majority of use cases and the (few?) people needing 4 could simply buy another set. The real question will be pricing for an additional set as I don't see them in the gear store yet.

dang. so no 12v and only one magnet instead of two for the false floor in the frunk. only two tie downs. anything else they've removed?

not deal breakers though. and if it helps their margins without significantly impacting what we were sold, them im ok with it.

I usually use the tie downs with the cargo net to secure many small loose items like food, groceries, kids sports items, tools/toolbox(es). I did email my guide about getting/buying 2 more tie downs. Hoping for some positive answer. I do agree there are many other storage areas both in the frunk and trunk, but it is fast and easy to use the 4 tiedowns + cargo net setup.

I think this is more likely a supply side issue. The earliest deliveries of the R1S only have two and it was before Sandy's company got involved. As much as I'd like to blame him for it.

I personally would be perfectly fine if I had no tie-downs. These are just going to end up in a box of spare parts but I have to find a place to store for a few years until I sell the vehicle.

But I still find this very disappointing and unacceptable. The product they deliver needs to match the product they advertise. To not do so is misleading and unethical even if not illegal.

Randomly removing stuff is fine on vehicles that you pick out of the auto dealers lot. You see what you get before you put your money down. But with Rivian taking your money before you ever see the vehicle, they need to deliver vehicles that exactly match what they have advertised.

Maybe it’s a supply chain issue? Whatever the reason, I’ll buy another pair if they sell them as an accessory and the price is close to reasonable. (2 for $50?)

It does seem a little shady that the review units have 4 and many reviewers mention them. Since they are so easy to remove I would’ve pulled 2 out of the review units to make them match current production equipment and keep expectations in line.

Ok, cargo net securing items behind the 3rd row is a valid use case, just not one I've needed before. Thanks for sharing how you and I'm sure many others would leverage 4 tie downs.

For some reason when I first read your post my brain injected a comma that wasn't there and I saw "...to secure... groceries, kids, sports items...". The comma makes a big difference. ?

One dog leash attached to each tie down? Fortunately I have two dogs, so would be safe.
