This surprises me. I really expected they would spin the charging network off once all manufacturers announced they were changing.

I think Tesla may have legal ramifications from this decision since they took the most federal funds to “grow EV charging”. I believe an investigation is already under way.
Stop with the FUD. NEVI funds are paid at completion of project.

Well, even with a third party adapter, the unstable genius could cut off non-Tesla users on a whim. I’ve towed our Airstream over 5000 miles without a Tesla charging stop, and will continue to do so. EA has performed beautifully for us, as have EVgo, Charge Point. Francis Energy, Blink, and Loop
Competition is good, a Tesla monopoly is dangerous.
Pay the man!

I hope non-Tesla manufacturers have an non-revocable agreement for access to Tesla Superchargers

How long do companies have to complete the projects? Can a company sit on an awarded site indefinitely?
Great question. There's a lot of info on Colorado's NEVI funding plan and DC fast charging at:
https://www.codot.gov/programs/innovativemobility/electrification/nevi-plan
and
https://energyoffice.colorado.gov/zero-emissions-vehicles/dcfc-plazas

Don't forget to apply for your small business or condo HOA for level 2 chargers: https://energyoffice.colorado.gov/charge-ahead-colorado

I’ve already looked at that. Doesn’t say anything about a company that doesn’t move forward with their awarded location. It’s even worse since Tesla could have just not applied and another company could have started. But as of now it might be some prime locations will be waiting a long time for chargers.

After the shocking, yet on brand, news that Elon has decided to severely downsize the 500+member super charging team, this has sent the EV charging world into a frenzy. I'm even reading how this is about limiting access for competitors to the network to stifle the competition. I have an easy solution... Certify/partner with 3rd party NACS adapters like @A2ZEV.

This adapter puts the Rivian/Ford owners on superior EV charging footing to Tesla users because now we have two networks to access. Without it, we're dependent upon Tesla to roll them out as they see fit. I don't think depending on Elon Musk is wise under any circumstances.
Tesla can charge at non Tesla SC with exception of RAN SC. They are not limited by this decision, albeit the Tesla SC network is most reliable and preferred. I believe Ford/Rivian are better position to other brands whose access to Tesla SC network has not been finalized.

I don't know the NEVI plan specifically, but I suspect you're right given the nature of government contracting.

With my tiny bit of exposure to government contracting, I wouldn't be surprised if Tesla is hit with financial penalties for failure-to-perform on contracts they've been awarded but fail to complete. But this is all in the details of contracts we don't have insight into.

I do hope the government does have penalty rights for failure to perform. This was a competitive bidding process and states were relying on chargers actually being built. Re-soliciting bids takes up government time and resources that could be better spent in other ways.

Agree. I don't like anything which slows the pace of charging equipment deployment.
