We were out on our first long trip in the R1T, about 1200 miles total, and overall the trip went great. About 2/3s of the way through the return trip, I believe the truck went through an infotainment reset on its own. I was in highway assisted driving mode, and I noticed the screen had frozen. I took it out of assisted driving and about a minute later both screens went black. It restarted after a minute and all of the systems came back up one by one. I still had full power and no issues with driving. We finished the trip fine.

Was that an infotainment reset? Should I be concerned? I have a mobile service appointment next week for my horn, and I was going to ask about it, but not sure if I should be more proactive. I figured its software, things like this are bound to happen.

I have experienced a reset like this once. Freaked me out when the screens went black. But, as you experienced, there was no issue with driving and everything came back just as it would during an infotainment reset.

I didn't bother filing a ticket and it hasn't happened again.

Yeah, I agree these things are bound to happen with software, but I've been blamed a few times that the software was just correcting some bad hardware behavior. :) Sounds like it froze and watch-dog reset itself. Could be bad, but maybe a one time thing? It would be interesting to see if mobile service can run some diagnostics and glean something.

Sounds like the infotainment system reset to me. It also sounds abnormal. I would submit a ticket and be specific as to date and time so they can review logs. Keep in mind that logs are only stored for a limited time, so it's better to add the ticket sooner than later.

I went ahead and opened a ticket, just to make sure nothing was going on. The technician called me very quickly, and we walked through the issue. They agreed that it was abnormal but can happen when there is a software issue. He walked me through a system restart and an infotainment restart, and I confirmed that it behaved like an infotainment restart.

I'll ask the mobile technician about it when they look at my horn next week. Otherwise I'm satisfied with their quick response.

I wonder if Rivian has ECC rated Memory in the R1s?
Maybe you experienced a rare bit flip from cosmic rays??!

Not likely, but this is the story I'm sticking to :D
